Pay Range: G.25, $52,811.20 - $78,374.40

Survey Technician Field Supervisor

This position is in the Public Works Department, Engineering Division and reports to the City Surveyor. It is responsible for oversight, coordination and performance of work related to Land Surveying, drafting and directly supervise the daily activities of the field survey crews to ensure an efficient and productive operation.

Duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
?Assist the City Surveyor with receiving and tracking surveys, drafting and computation requests, conduct related research, and collect information including plats, deeds, wills, and plan necessary to perform field survey work and drafting to meet deadlines.
?Review and process data from field survey operations and drafting to ensure accuracy and completeness; post-process hydrographic, scanned, and GPS data to produce drawings; review property, subdivision and acquisition plats, deeds and construction plans for engineering staff and other City agencies to ensure the accuracy and adequacy for recordation.
?Assist the City Surveyor with contract management, preparation of work orders, review of fee proposals, and preparation and review City cost estimates; preparation of an operating budget; procurement to ensure that adequate supplies, equipment, and transportation are available to enable staff to complete their assigned work.
?Perform advanced, complex calculations for traverse closures, adjustments, volumes, boundary information, construction alignments and grades, acreage, and right of way and easement acquisition to?ensure the complete and accurate preparation of all engineering drawings.

Minimum Requirements:

MINIMUMS:
Requires any combination of education (above the high school level) plus eight (8) years of experience in surveys or a related field which utilizes the required knowledge, skills and abilities as associated with such positions as Survey Party Supervisor, Land Surveyor, Survey Technician, or Engineering Technician; or any equivalent combination of experience and training which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities.
Certification as a Survey Technician by the National Society of Professional Surveyors; and/or a Surveyor-In-Training (S.I.T.) designation.
Must have, or obtain, a current and valid Virginia or North Carolina driver's license in accordance with Virginia or North Carolina DMV driver's license eligibility requirements.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
All employees may be expected to work hours in excess of their normally scheduled hours in response to short-term department needs and/or City-wide emergencies.
This position may require that incumbents to wear and maintain appropriate personal protective equipment such as, but not limited to, steel toed shoes, hard hats, safety glasses, gloves, or other safety attire and equipment in designated areas of risk. Specific requirements will be determined and communicated by the employee?s supervisor based on position assigned.

Preferences:

Land Surveyor License
5 years of experience s as a Survey Party Supervisor and/or Survey Technician
Experience supervising multiple survey field crews
Experience and demonstrated proficiency in AutoCad Civil 3D
Hydrographic experience utilizing Hypack Software or similar
Contract management experience
Fee proposal and cost estimating experience
Budget experience
Experience reading and comprehending construction plans and plats
Experience operating land surveying instruments and equipment
Experience and demonstrated knowledge of Algebra, Geometry, & Trigonomety to perform relevant calculations.
Knowledge of basic computer operations
