SAIC is seeking a proven Linux Systems Administrator to join the Army Research Laboratory (ARL) Information Technology (IT) Modernization program and support the full range of Enterprise IT services to ARL's research mission. This position is contingent upon contract award expected summer/fall 2025. The work is to be performed at the customer site at Aberdeen Proving Ground (APG), MD.

Some of ARL's focus areas include Biological and Biotechnology Sciences, Electromagnetic Spectrum Sciences, Energy Sciences, Humans in Complex Systems, Mechanical Sciences, Military Information Sciences, Network/Cyber/Computational Sciences, Photonics/Electronics/Quantum Sciences, Sciences of Extreme Materials, Terminal Effects, and Weapons Sciences. Our Linux System Administrator will be responsible for the installation, configuration, maintenance, and security of Windows-based workstations and services in compliance with DoD and ARL IT policies at the Army Research Laboratory in Aberdeen, MD. Install, configure, and manage RHEL systems and Red Hat Enterprise Virtualization environments Administer KVM virtualization, Puppet automation, and kernel-level tuning Implement system patching, STIG compliance, and release/version control Monitor performance, handle incident response, and ensure uptime and data integrity Automate tasks using shell scripting, Ansible, or equivalent configuration management tools Maintain backup and recovery solutions and ensure disaster recovery readiness Conduct system audits and enforce DoD security requirements Maintain accurate and comprehensive configuration documentation Qualifications
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
Must have an MS or BA/BS in computer sciences or information technology with two (2+) additional years of experience Five (5+) years of relevant experience working in an IT or Service Desk environment Ability to work with customers to develop new value-added programs and data solutions with existing structures and new requirements CLEARANCE REQUIREMENT:
Must have an active Top Secret clearance CERTIFICATION REQUIREMENT:
IAT Level II Certification equivalent or higher per DoD 8570/DoD 8140 (CompTIA Security+ CE, CCNA Security, GICSP, GSEC, SSCP, etc.) Red Hat Certified System Administrator (RHCSA) Certification DESIRED EXPERIENCE:
Information Technology Infrastructure Library (ITIL) v4 certification Experience with incident management within the ServiceNow Information Technology Service Management (ITSM) platform Proficiency with Microsoft Office products Experience creating and modifying documentation for technical processes and procedures Experience working in a Department of Defense (DoD) environment A problem solver and troubleshooter who thrives in resolving complex problems Strong self-starter requiring minimal supervision Excellent communication skills (written and oral) and interpersonal skills Excellent organizational skills, attention to detail, and ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks
Target salary range: $40,001 - $80,000. The estimate displayed represents the typical salary range for this position based on experience and other factors.
