Overview

We are seeking a full-time Senior Automation Software Engineer in our Olathe, KS location. In this role, you will be responsible for creating complex automated and robotic systems, applications and integrated manufacturing equipment in a team environment that contributes to improved operations and Smart Factory enablement while leading efforts in researching and developing new, cutting-edge automation concepts and solutions through system designs and programming, integrating them into a working solution.
Essential Functions
Develops innovative software applications in C#, VB, .NET, Python or other selected languages for Garmin, and reviews other engineers' codeCreates complex system architectures, as well as detailed program code, to control the operation of automated equipment and integrates with Garmin's Manufacturing Execution SystemDevelops user-friendly, flexible, and highly efficient architecture for user interfaces that enable Process Engineers/Operators to interact with and control automated equipmentUtilizes necessary tools/technical expertise to provide reliable solutions to a wide range of difficult problemsDemonstrates ability to complete well defined complex tasksReviews moderately complex designs and makes recommendationsAble to lead moderately complex projects, coordinating efforts across multiple automation engineering leadsMakes substantial contributions towards determination of project goals/objective feasibilityMakes technical/process recommendations to guide the work of othersIdentifies opportunities to introduce automation and new technology within OperationsDemonstrates subject matter expertise on technical topicsServes as a mentor to less experienced Automation Engineer (Automation Engineer 1 & 2)Creates equipment and/or application information including operating instruction and user manuals for deployed solutionsParticipates in recruiting activities as assignedAbility to travel domestically and internationally on occasion Basic Qualifications
Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Robotics Engineering, or another related engineering discipline AND a minimum of 5 years relevant experience OR an equivalent combination of education and relevant experienceExcellent academics (cumulative GPA greater than or equal to 3.0 as a rule)Must demonstrate proficiency and knowledge in use of engineering toolsMust demonstrate full use of industry standards and proceduresMust demonstrate competence with researching fundamental problems and implementing appropriate solutionsMust be positive, detail/team oriented, work collaboratively/proactively/effectively with minimal supervision and the ability to prioritize/multi-task in a flexible, fast paced, and challenging environmentDemonstrates excellent communication skills with the ability to communicate with other business segments, and with an understanding of how Automation objectives impact other disciplinesApply a sense of urgency, commitment and focus on the right priorities in developing solutions in a timely fashion and thoroughly document work in an organized manner, creating revision-controlled documentationMust possess proficiency and possess experience necessary to develop moderately complex software in C#, VB, .NET, Python, or other selected languageDesired Qualifications
Previous work experience working in a manufacturing environmentPrevious experience working in a team environmentPrevious experience working with robotics/controls systems/mechanical or electrical design/software developmentFluency in object-oriented programming, able to develop and manage front end applications using C# and has significant experience with Model-View-ViewModel architecture
