Overview

We are seeking a full-time Senior Aviation Technical Writer in our Olathe, KS location. In this role, you will be responsible for creating reader-friendly user guides and installation and maintenance manuals.
Essential Functions
Research/collect data to write pilot's guides, quick reference guides, installation manuals, maintenance manuals, and/or service documentsCreate electronic documents using word processing and desktop publishing toolsCommunicate with Design Engineers in areas related to product specifications and product developmentResearch airframe technical characteristics to accurately document functions and features of specific aviation productsProvide software beta testing input for Design Engineers, Program Managers, and Human Factors team
Facilitate rework of mechanical drawings and screen capturesWork in a team environment within Technical Publications area to constantly improve the archival, storage and documentation processEdit copy written by other Technical Writers for content organization, style, voice, audience and consistency of format Basic Qualifications
Bachelor's Degree in a related field OR a minimum of 4 years relevant experienceMust possess a minimum of 3 years experience working as a Garmin Aviation Technical Writer OR a minimum of 8 years related experience as a Technical Writer performing duties similar to the essential functions of this job descriptionAvionics/aviation experience and/or knowledgeProficient experience with desktop publishing toolsWorking knowledge of S1000D publishing standards and relevant softwareDemonstrated strong and effective verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skillsMust be positive, detail/team oriented, and a multi-tasker with the ability to prioritize and work proactively/effectively in a fast paced, deadline-driven environment with minimal supervisionDesired Qualifications
Electronics/technical backgroundAdobe InDesign experienceDrafting education/experienceMultimedia and courseware development software experienceFamiliarity with mass-production printing equipment and processesPrivate Pilot License - Instrument rating a plus
