Job Title: Optical/Mechanical Designer

Solidus is searching for a Senior Optical/Mechanical Designer in the design, fabrication, integration and test of advanced sensor systems.

How will you make an impact:
The successful candidate will work in small teams on a variety of projects, interfacing with other subject matter experts and provide complex and innovative solutions for rapid prototypes. This position must be able to create, design, oversee and coordinate the development of sensor/system components including electronics, thermal, mechanical, and optical systems.

What will you bring to the role:
Requirements
• US Citizenship and able to obtain a DoD Secret clearance
• Bachelor's Degree
• 5+ years of experience
• Some flexibility to work remote depending on the specific project work, but will be required in the office at least 3-4 days a week.
• Develop complex designs for the optimum performance and ease of fabrication, assembly and testing of complex imaging systems, thermal systems packaging solutions, novel materials and innovative mechanisms
• Experience with a wide range of platforms (i.e. manned/unmanned vehicles, aircrafts, ships, spacecrafts)
• Experience with the design and modeling of mechanical enclosures, optical assemblies with an understanding of requirements needed for Mounting/adjustment/actuation, alignment & measurement techniques, precision bearing, gearing & drive systems, structural/thermal analysis and environmental testing.
• Must be able to work collaboratively in a multi-disciplinary team environment
• Should demonstrate good written and oral communications skills.

• Design, analysis and documentation of opto-/mechanical subsystems and components
• Various fabrication techniques like machining, sheet metal, etc
• Thermal analysis and structural analysis
• Optical systems and the design of EO/IR systems
• Mechanical Design Mechanical CAD experience (Solid Works or other CAD software) Vast experience with mechanisms and complex mechanical assemblies.

Additionally Desired
• Opto-mechanical experience is highly preferred. Candidates with this experience will stand out.
• Various fabrication techniques like machining, sheet metal, etc
• Military standards, mil spec components
• Thermal analysis and structural analysis
• Optical systems and the design of EO/IR systems
• Coordinating and executing system performance testing
