Typical duties of this position include: Serving as a specialist for the Division of Enforcement's Office of Chief Counsel (OCC) performing research assignments and conducting research projects supporting the work of the organization and the senior staff. Research work conducted is typically related to one or more of the following SEC program areas: FOIA requests; confidential treatment requests; analysis of financial and accounting data; extracting highlights of documentary evidence; digesting and indexing decisions/opinions; determinations on the segregation and retention of information; analysis and identification of deficiencies in SEC processes; collating and summarizing financial/legal information; and/or research in support of the examination, investigation, regulation, enforcement, and investor assistance mission of the SEC. Researching SEC databases and files, media, government, and corporate websites, and other relevant sources to locate information related to the functions of the assigned organization. Identifying the appropriate sources to obtain relevant and current information. Serving as a resource to OCC Chief and other senior staff members, the securities industry, and the public. Displays an up-to-date knowledge and understanding of the assigned specialized area of research, changes in legislation and regulations that impact research processes; and utilizes technological advancements. May be called upon to conduct training relative to assigned area of work such as FOIA. Analyzing requests for information, researching records, collating information, determining if information is appropriate for release, and preparing the requested information for release and/or review. Identifying unusual or controversial information requests and bringing them to the attention of senior staff.

This position has promotion potential to the SK-12. PROBATIONARY PERIOD: This appointment may require completion of a one-year probationary period. SECURITY CLEARANCE: Entrance on duty is contingent upon completion of a pre-employment security investigation. Favorable results on a Background Investigation may be a condition of employment or selection to another position. DRUG TESTING: This position may be subjected to drug testing requirements. PERMANENT CHANGE OF STATION (PCS): Moving/Relocation expenses are not authorized. DIRECT DEPOSIT: All Federal employees are required to have Federal salary payments made by direct deposit to a financial institution of their choosing. This position is in the collective bargaining unit. This position is eligible to request telework in accordance with the SEC 's telework policy.

Qualifications

Time-in-grade for this announcement is one year at the GS/SK-11 level.

Qualifying experience may be obtained in the private or public sector. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENT:
SK-12: Applicant must have at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS/SK-11 level that includes:
(1) Assisting staff in researching information related to areas of program emphasis; AND
(2) Collecting and extracting data from a variety of sources and compiling research results; AND
(3) Preparing correspondence, reports, or other documents related to work assignments; AND
(4) Maintaining records, documents, and files
