About the role:

Junior Case Management Specialist is responsible for processing background check requests for potential sponsors of unaccompanied children. The Case Management Specialists do not participate in adjudication or evaluation of the information they receive, and do not make security recommendations based on this information.

Responsibilities: There are two primary areas that Case Management Specialists will work in: Sponsor Checks Sponsor Checks focus primarily on matching received request paperwork with Special Agency Check (SAC) results received from OPM (Office of Personnel Management), and then opening, processing, and closing cases in an the Program Center (PSC) electronic database. There is considerable follow up with prospective States, ACF personnel, and ACF designees. Child Abuse and Neglect Checks. Child Abuse and Neglect Checks (CA/N) focus primarily on receiving requests and coordinating with state child protective services to receive CA/N records for potential sponsors. There is considerable follow up with OPM, ACF personnel, and ACF designees Initiate Sponsor Checks and/or Child Abuse and Neglect Checks on potential sponsors of Unaccompanied Children via already existent PSC-established procedures which includes matching results with the incoming necessary paperwork and enter into PSC database to open cases Interface with the respective Federal and State-level Criminal History and/or Child Protective Services agencies throughout the U.S., ACF personnel and designees, and other PSC staff, as well as PSC customers through OPM or other means to obtain missing results or information to be able to close cases Assess documentation and write summary of investigative findings Responsible for timely email request responses and coordination, as well as evaluating various database searches for potential sponsor information. Overcome obstacles and accomplish the mission of obtaining timely, accurate child abuse and neglect checks on sponsor applicants of Unaccompanied Children. Conduct necessary research on policies and procedures regarding state Child Protective Services Present PSC/DCS procedures in a classroom setting, via conference call or web demonstration to DCS customers, ACF personnel or designees, and other federal partners. This position will require less than 5% out of state travel a year to provide or participate in care provider site visits and state agency visits to provide training presentations or other assistance as needed. Qualifications/Requirements: Must have a minimum of an Associate's Degree and a minimum of one year of related job experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience Proficient knowledge of Microsoft Office (Outlook, Excel, Access, Power Point, Word) Customer-friendly service skills - especially in communication to overcoming obstacles Requires the skills to understand specific rules and procedures to be able to choose between alternative courses of action Must have documented attention to detail experience Must be self-directed and capable of processing and prioritizing multiple tasks, and handling a large and varied workload with minimum supervision. Must have excellent problem solving skills. Must have excellent verbal and written communication, organizational, grammatical, and proofreading skills. Must be able to deal effectively and tactfully with a variety of internal and external customers Must coordinate work activities with other individuals and groups Sensitive to other cultures and ethnic groups. Must be a U.S. citizen Must be willing to travel 5% Preferred Qualifications/Requirements: Preference for familiarity with Spanish and/or willing to learn.
