Job Title: Trades Helper

ASRC Federal Field Services, a Subsidiary of ASRC Federal Holding Company, is currently seeking a Trades Helper at the Plum Island Animal Disease Research Center, located on Plum Island, NY. (1.5 nautical miles off North Fork of Long Island & 6 nautical miles off coast of Old Saybrook, CT). Marine transportation furnished by Gov't provided ferry.

Summary:

Provide support to operations and maintenance functions at research facility. Work as a member of maintenance team in support of all phases of facility industrial facility equipment and systems. Work tasks include preventive maintenance as well as repair services. Services are performed in support of research facility on a continuous 24/7 basis. Respond to facility outages as applicable and tend to mechanical components and issues.

Roles/Responsibilities:

Provide support to operations and maintenance functions at research facility.
Work alongside higher level tradesmen and/or independently on a variety of maintenance tasks; may include maintenance in electrical, mechanical or plumbing.
Building maintenance and repair such as painting and simple repairs.
Assist in the performance of repairs and maintenance of facility equipment, motorized and non-motorized equipment and general facility maintenance; duties include, but are not limited to preventive maintenance tasks on mechanical and electrical equipment structures.
Operate equipment as assigned and directed. Perform building maintenance inspection tours.
Organize, assemble and deliver tools and supplies for maintenance task to work site.
Routine tasks such as delivery of supplies, grounds keeping and painting.
Assist in performance of road repair and maintenance.
Operate forklifts, tractors, mowers, light and medium weight trucks.
In alignment with task will be required to utilize appropriate PPE (personal protective equipment).
Other duties as determined and assigned by department manager.

Requirements:

HS Diploma or GED. Must possess (2) years of general experience in applicable crafts, with mechanical and electrical experience preferred.
Ability to lift 50 lbs. to work independently or as a team with minimal supervision.
Additional preferred qualifications include ability to become active member of the PIADC Fire Brigade. Fire rescue experience a plus.
This is a position essential to the facility operation. Work schedule is subject to rotating shifts, weekends and holidays.
Must be a US citizen and be eligible for PIADC clearance, possess a valid driver license and must undergo required physical examination and vaccinations.
