Your Impact:

The U.S. Naval Research Laboratory provides the advanced scientific capabilities required to bolster our country's position of global naval leadership. The Acoustics Division Of NRL conducts basic and applied research addressing the physics of acoustic signal generation, propagation, scatter, and detection with the objective of improving the strategic and tactical capabilities of the Navy and Marine Corps in the ocean and land operation environment. This position will be located at Stennis, In Mississippi. The work will focus on Acoustic Simulation, Measurements, and Tactics. This could include: Ocean acoustic propagation and scattering models, Fleet application acoustic models, High-frequency seafloor and ocean acoustic measurements, Riverine acoustics, Distributed sensing networks, Incorporating uncertainty in predictive models, Tactical acoustic simulations and databases, Warfare, effectiveness studies and optimization, Environmental assessment and planning tools.

Here's What You'll Need:

Looking for masters or PhD level physicists, mathematicians or equivalent

Must have the following qualifications:
1. US citizen able to get SECRET or higher clearance
2. Programming skills e.g. matlab, c, c++, python on multiple platforms (windows, linux, sgi, etc.)
3. Mastery of basic principles of physics, preferably wave phenomenon, e.g. normal modes, parabolic equations, finite elements, ray tracing
4. Demonstrated ability to work both as a team member and on-own with limited oversight
5. Demonstrated ability to communicate orally and in writing
6. Must be able to meet deadlines in high-stress situations
7. Knowledge of, or ability to learn emerging data science, machine learning techniques (e.g. python, matlab)
8. Willing and able to write proposals

This position requires a SECRET security clearance, based on current background investigation (SBI), as well as the favorable completion of polygraph. Clearance and polygraph processing will be completed by the U.S. Government.

Physical Requirements:
Most work will be done at a desk or computer.

Work Environment:
General Office environment. The work environment is fast-paced and sometimes involves extreme deadline pressures. The nature of the work requires a high degree of teamwork and cooperation with other members of the staff as well as individuals across the Company and Customers.

Equipment & Machines:
General office equipment including PC/laptop, Fax, Copiers, Shredder, Printers, Telephone, and other miscellaneous office equipment.

Attendance:
Attendance is critical at all times. Must be able to work a 40-hour workweek, normally Monday through Friday. However, times and days may vary depending on business requirements. Needs to be available to work overtime during critical peaks and be available to meet last minute requests for overtime should the situation occur.

Must be able to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing
Grooming and dress must be appropriate for the position and must not impose a safety risk/hazard to the employee or others. Must put forward a professional behavior that enhances productivity and promotes teamwork and cooperation.

Must be well-organized with the ability to coordinate and prioritize multiple tasks simultaneously. Must work well under pressure to meet deadline requirements. Must be willing to travel as needed. Must take and pass a drug test and background check as well as a motor vehicle records check. Must be a US citizen.
