Duties and Responsibilities
Conduct VPX system benchtop prototyping development, requiring programming, integrating testing, and analyzing candidate VPX boards and associated LINUX-based and Windows 10 operating systems for Machinery Control System replacement system. Support NSWCCD Code 515 in distance and onsite troubleshooting and repair of LHD 8 Class Machinery Control System (MCS) hardware and software problems identified by ships force personnel. Operationally test, troubleshoot and repair the LHD 8 and LHA 6 Class Machinery Control System (MCS). Troubleshoot and repair both Versa Module Eurocard (VME) Bus and Programmable Logic Controller (PLC) equipped systems and components.
Qualifications/ Required Skills
Minimum Education: Bachelor of Science (BS) Degree in Mechanical Engineering or Electrical Engineer or Computer Engineering from an ABET accredited program. Target Experience: Five (5) years of professional experience within industry as a systems, electrical, and/or electronics engineer Two (2) years of professional experience within industry acting as a lead engineer Three (3) years of professional experience troubleshooting hardware/software systems One (1) year of professional experience reading electrical schematics One (1) year of professional experience troubleshooting network based systems EXPERIENCE: Hardware Design, experience with R&D, manufacturing, VEM/VPX products, knowledge of Interface protocols (RS232, RS435, TCPIP, Ethernet, Profibus), Experience with embedded CPUs, knowledge of JIRA or Confluence
CCNA or Security CySA+ ** or GICSP or GSEC or Security+ or CE or CND or SSCP Experience with Hardware Design, experience with R&D, manufacturing, VEM/VPX products, knowledge of Interface protocols (RS232, RS435, TCPIP, Ethernet, Profibus), Experience with embedded CPUs, knowledge of JIRA or Confluence
Physical / Mental Requirements
Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer. Basic math computational skills Ability to stand for prolonged periods of time, lift a minimum of 50lbs and walk up and down stairs numerous times. Ability to work in confined spaces and in extreme temperatures. Must be able to access and navigate all areas of the (Naval/ Maritime) facility or ship Must be able to squat, lift, stretch, and bend in order to reach all areas of the facility. Must be able to work in and on overhead structures, as well as below machinery. Requires kneeling, bending, and climbing ladders or scaffolding. Must be able to see color to discern color-coded wiring
