Responsibilities
OBXtek is currently staffing for two Mainframe Monitoring Support Specialist 2 to support SSA's DSUSF division. Position requires a Public Trust Suitability or eligibility for Public Trust.

Background
The Systems Problem Resolution Branch (SPRB) monitors and provides technical support for all mainframe functions in the National Service Center (NSC) in Urbana, Maryland.

The SPRB staff handles the following:
Provides operational direction, problem determination and resolution, and documentation on all aspects of mainframe, multi-processor environment processing, Maintains the highest degree of mainframe uptime possible, Communicates with software support personnel, management and vendors to resolve problems, Interfaces with NSC and Secondary Support Center (SSC) personnel to remain current on all system changes, procedures and documentation, and Mitigates and minimizes all outage situations. The primary purpose of thie Expert Systems Programmer is to ensure immediate response to problem situations and effective resolution of all real and potential outages.
Multi Image Manager (MIM), Top Secret, z/OS MVS, JES3 functions, Central Processing Units (CPUs), Direct Access Storage Devices (DASD), Automated Cartridge Systems (ACS), Virtual Tape Systems, Cartridge tape drives, Coupling facilities, Network devices, FICON directors Problem Determination and Resolution Activities:
Identify and resolve problems on a complex large-scale mainframe including its peripheral equipment and network hardware and software. Analyze and immediately develop solutions relative to systems software, computer hardware, or application program problems. Provide technical direction and input on the isolation and resolution of hardware and software problems. Monitor performance levels of large-scale systems and network complexes to ensure system resource availability. Interface with SSA software components to resolve mainframe application and Operating Systems (z/OS) problems. Work directly with vendors, software technicians, and facilities personnel to maintain the highest level of processing possible. Research and gather information to support problem resolution using COMM dumps, stand-alone dumps (SAD), JES3 dumps, LOGREC, OPSLOG, RMF and SYSLOG information. Record and report mainframe problem information using email, CAPRS, and the DSUSF SPRB Activity Log systems. Instruct other IT Specialists on how to record problems and present oral reports to management. In performing the tasks above, the Contractor shall identify problems and incidents and document them. Maintenance Activities:
Consult with and coordinate all operational components concerning the scheduling of systems time for multi-vendor remedial service or preventive maintenance, and critical system software testing. Instruct other IT Specialists on the skills of identification and resolution of hardware and software problems. Contact and involve the appropriate personnel to resolve system software and application software issues. Convey all information appropriately (phone, email, page etc.), accurately, and effectively. Gather all pertinent documentation and provide it to responsible personnel for their action. Perform system resets to prepare for maintenance. After maintenance is complete, perform system IMLs if required and then perform system IPLs to prepare systems for operation. Instruct other IT Specialists on the skills necessary to coordinate and schedule the activities of SSA hardware vendors, application software components, operating systems software components, and facilities personnel. Instruct other IT Specialists on how to record maintenance activities and present oral reports to management. Update problem and change control records using Change Asset Problem Reporting Systems (CAPRS).
Security and Access Control
Coordinates and oversees security and access control for mainframe systems and all attached peripheral devices vendor support.Activities
Consults and coordinates SSC access for vendors with Office of Protective Security Services (OPSS) personnel using an OPSS electronic facilities access application. Perform escort duties for vendors during situations that require vendor personnel without SSA provided credentials access to mainframe systems and associated peripherals.

Qualifications
Active Public Trust Clearance.

10+ years of task-related experience

Mainframe hardware experience

Problem determination

Shift schedule: One position works evening shift 4:00 pm - 12:00 am. One position trains on midnight shift 12:00 am - 8:30 am, then moves to day shift 8:00 am - 4:30 pm.

Alternate work schedule: workdays Thursday - Monday, off Tuesday - Wednesday

Contractors are currently teleworking due to COVID. Contractors for this task are essential, and when scheduled to work onsite, contractors must report to work, even during inclement weather conditions.
