Job Description:

The Vice President of Engineering is responsible for Personnel Management, Program Management and Engineering Execution, Technical Leadership, Strategy Development, and Budget. The VP of Engineering ensures ID.me's Engineering function effectively addresses internal tools and the three key areas of ID.me's platform: Members, Organizations, and Data Sources. The Vice President of Engineering is a critical partner to the Chief Technology Officer (CTO) and the Chief Product Officer (CPO) and provides the process orientation and technical leadership to align the team to the CTO's vision and the CPO's product roadmap.
The VP of Engineering enforces ID.me's culture and ensures alignment between employee behavior and promotions, compensation increases, and recognition. The VP of Engineering reports to the CTO and ensures alignment between responsible areas and ID.me's overall strategy. The VP of Engineering turns ID.me's vision into real-world products that delight users.
The VP of Engineering is charged with building and leading a world-class team capable of superb execution at scale within each area of responsibility. The VP of Engineering is evaluated against each of the areas noted below. The VP of Engineering is responsible for everything that the Engineering function does and does not do.

Personnel Management

Identities key skills and capabilities needed to assess team strengths and weaknessesPartners with HR to recruit and retain top-tier talentOrganizes the Engineering department and teams to support ID.me's product suiteDevelops engineering managers to increase productivityCommunicates effectively up, down, and laterally to ensure alignment of workProvides purpose, motivation, and direction to members of the Engineering team
Program Management and Engineering Execution

Ensures the realization of the product roadmap through excellence in executionCreates a framework to accurately size and estimate deliverables to arrive at internal & external delivery commitmentsOrganizes teams and resources to deliver the product roadmap Enables \"rapid response force\" surge capacity to address time-sensitive needs without compromising the roadmapDevelops a program plan that incorporates interdependencies between functional areasEstablishes playbooks to drive process and consistent outcomes for repeated tasksProactively mitigates risk by identifying and controlling internal and external risk factors Supervises work to continuously iterate and improveConducts effective After Action Reviews to instill effective team learning habits
Technical Leadership

Develops the technical strategy with the CTOBuilds and maintains the technical roadmapDefines and oversees consistent adoption of software development instrumentation and standards across the Engineering teamBalances long-term R&D investments with near-term executionMonitors and ensures performance, availability and reliability of internal components and ID.me products in order to meet & exceed SLAs
Strategy Development

Serves as part of the senior staff responsible for company and product strategyBuilds strong relationships across disciplines e.g. Sales, Marketing, Finance, etc.Provides a voice for the engineering team to influence ID.me's vision and priorities
Budget

Works with the Chief Financial Officer to develop a bottoms up budgetAligns compensation and incentives with desired behaviorsResponsible for headcount, consulting, prototyping, software, equipment, travel and entertainment, and professional development costs
