Duties

This position is located in the Office of the Inspector General, Assistant Inspector General for Investigations, Rockville, MD. This position is subject to Confidential Financial Disclosure reporting requirements. Salary includes 25% law enforcement availability pay.

As the Deputy Assistant Inspector General for Investigations, you will provide day-to-day supervision for all areas of the Office of the Inspector General (OIG) investigations program. You will share delegated responsibility with the Assistant Inspector General for Investigations (AIGI) for the conduct and supervision of investigations relating to the programs and operations of the Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) and the Defense Nuclear Facilities Safety Board (DNFSB). You will provide technical advice and assistance to the AIGI, the Deputy Inspector General (Deputy IG), and Inspector General (IG) on all aspects of the OIG investigative program.

You will perform the broadest and most significant type of managerial and technical assignments under the general direction of the AIGI, Deputy IG, or IG. You will participate in the development and direction of an investigative program which is comprehensive, effective, and responsive to the interests and needs of the IG and ensures the integrity of both the NRC and the DNFSB daily operations.
Finally, you will work in close coordination with OIG staff and management, senior officials of the NRC and DNFSB, and senior officials from other stakeholder organizations and the Congress, and will often represent the AIGA in meetings and other settings.

Qualifications

In order to qualify for this position, you must have at least one year of specialized experience at the next lower grade level in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE is defined as experience providing managerial, technical, and administrative oversight for an investigations program or activities in an Office of Inspector General (OIG) or comparable investigations program, office, or agency, which contributed to the successful detection of fraud, waste, and abuse in an organization's or agency's programs, operations, and/or activities.

The ideal candidate will be able to demonstrate the following:

1. Extensive knowledge of Federal criminal laws and investigative techniques and procedures in order to conduct and oversee professional investigations of violations of those laws or regulations with the jurisdictions of an OIG or comparable organization.
2. Expert management skills including the ability to direct assignments, assess and manage performance, collaborate with subordinates on goal setting and work planning, and support professional development for all levels of personnel.
3. Superior interpersonal and communications skills including the ability to interview, negotiate, and brief senior officials and executive personnel at all levels within and outside the organization.
4. Superior analytical and critical thinking skills, including the ability to think strategically and identify investigations programmatic needs and requirements in order to carry out a successful execution of the organization's mission, programs, and projects.
5. Ability to operate with a considerable degree of objectivity and independence.

Candidates are subject to the maximum age of original entry into law enforcement positions with this agency, which is 37 unless they have previous service in a Federal civilian law enforcement position covered by special law enforcement retirement provisions or are a preference-eligible veteran.

If selected for this position, you will be required to carry and use a firearm. Maintaining firearm proficiency is mandatory. You must also successfully complete a pre-employment medical evaluation.

Education

There is no degree requirement for this position, however, a Bachelor's degree or higher is desired.
Candidates for this position must have successfully completed the Criminal Investigator Training Program (CITP) at the Federal Law Enforcement Training Center (FLETC) in Glynco, GA, as well as other courses as prescribed by the OIG to comply with the Council of Inspectors General on Integrity and Efficiency requirements, unless exempt or waived by the OIG based on previous successful completion of such training. This technical training must be successfully completed according to the standards of the agency. Failure to meet this requirement shall result in the disqualification of your application.
