Job Description:

Applied Research Associates, Inc. is seeking a Senior Remote Sensing Engineer to provide on-site support in support of a Department of Defense (DoD) customer. This position will provide subject matter expertise to customers in Research and Development, Test and Evaluation of remote sensing technology development, sensor-specific subsystem development, and new concept development. Candidate will work intimately with teams supporting research and analysis in microelectronics, artificial intelligence, machine learning, autonomy, energy and power, software engineering, networking, communication, cyber, electronic warfare, aerial/ground/naval platforms, biotechnology, and space systems.

The successful candidate:
Provides advice to the organization in area of expertise and applies advanced principles, theories, and concepts to job assignments, and contributes to the development of new ideas and principles.Provide technical insight and leadership to R&D and Engineering Requirements.Work to provide technical solutions to a wide range of complex and technically challenging workMakes recommendations on component selection and packaging for low-SWAP (Space, Weight, and Power) systems, designed for stressing environments.Researches state-of-the-art component technologies and sensor concepts/capabilities.Evaluates concept designs and system integration strategies.Authors system level requirements and coordinate proper decomposition to lower level requirements.Reviews documents and procedures, requirements flowdown, verification methodologies, calibration plans. Concept of Operations (CONOPS), Interface Control Documents (ICDs) and test plans to ensure program success.Reviews program for high risk areas and recommends mitigation approaches.Conducts modeling and simulation exercises as needed.Collaborates with team members, development contractors, and customer forums.Investigates innovative and emerging technologies to incorporate into analysis.Refines and develop measures of effectiveness, improvements to system environments, and creation of new procedures to support all facets of testing and operations.Conducts user outreach and research new concept designs to solve hard problems.
Required Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in a physical science (Physics, Chemical, Electrical, Mechanical, Aerospace engineering) or related discipline and 7+ years of experience in remote sensing technology development or analysis.Experience with sensor development, specifically systems that require low-SWAP components and operation in stressing environments (e.g. space, heat, wide variance in thermal loading, etc.) preferred.Experience in concept development, requirements definition, and trade studies for new systemsExperience with understanding physics in supporting operational platformsExcellent oral and written communication skillsWorking proficiency using MS Office (Word, PowerPoint, Excel), MS Outlook, MS ProjectAbility to operate in a Windows and Linux compute environments.Ability to accommodate change through new tasking, and new tools.Desire to develop and apply creative solutions to a wide range of problems.
Desired Qualifications:
Possess a TS/SCI security clearance.MS in a technical discipline such as Chemical, Electrical, Mechanical Engineering; PhD in Chemistry or Physics preferred.Experience providing technical insight to sensor development to DoD (large-scale DoD systems experience preferred.Expertise in component selection and packaging for low-SWAP (Space, Weight, and Power) systems, designed for stressing environments.Experience in researching state-of-the-art component technologies and sensor concepts/capabilities.Experience evaluating concept designs and system integration strategies.Experience authoring system level requirements and coordinated proper decomposition to lower level requirements.Thorough understanding of requirements flowdown, verification methodologies, calibration plans, Concept of Operations (CONOPS), Interface Control Documents (ICDs) and test plans to ensure program success.Demonstrated experience collaborating with team members, development contractors, and customer forums.
This position is contingent upon award of a contract expected in Spring 2020 supporting the Department of Defense.
