Job Description
This is a hourly position with no state benefits.

Eastern State Hospital, located in Williamsburg, Virginia, was founded in 1773, with a well-intentional emphasis on community focused mental health care. This state of the art campus, situated on 500 acres, consists of two patient care buildings with 300 patients, and a highly skilled staff of over 900. Eastern State Hospital is part of the Department of Behavioral Health and Developmental Services ( DBHDS ) system, and is accredited by the Joint Commission.

ESH invites applications for the position of a part-time Registered Dietitian.

Reporting directly to the Food Service Director, duties and responsibilities consist of the following:

• Provide quality comprehensive nutritional care to patients.
• Provide appropriate and accurate nutritional documentation in accordance with CMS , OBRA , TJC , and state policies.
• Assist in menu planning and nutritional analysis.
• Performs nutritional assessments and evaluations.
• Requires knowledge of the regulations and standards governing the nutrition programs, principles of supervision and program planning.
• Performs nutritional assessments, evaluations and planning.
• Requires the ability to perform documentation on patient units, including nutritional assessments and progress notes
• Attends treatment team meetings providing nutritional input for quality patient care.
• Demonstrated ability to complete Treatment Planning Conference ( TPC ) notes.
• Effectively communicate with patients the reasons for their diet requirements and the importance of adherence to their diet.
• Monitors tolerance of patient's diet and the effects to include potential drug-nutrient interactions.
• Ensure effective communication with family members on diet at time of discharge.
• Demonstrated ability working with Adult and Geriatric patient population.
• Demonstrated ability to perform prolonged sitting, manual dexterity on keyboard, bending and stooping.
• Ability to lift routinely 50 pounds or 25% of body weight (whichever is less).

Minimum Qualifications
• Registered Dietitian (RD) as established by the Commission on Dietetic Registration, the credentialing agency for The Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics ( AND )
• Graduate from an accredited college or university with major coursework in nutrition, dietetics or health related program.
• Demonstrated knowledge of the principles and practices of nutrition and dietetics.

Preferred Qualifications
Experience working in a psychiatric setting preferred.
