SUMMARY DESCRIPTION:
The Submarine Rescue Maintenance Assistant participates in the performance of corrective and preventative maintenance on the SRDRS, Submarine Rescue Chambers (SRC), assigned Deep Submergence Systems, and all associated rescue and intervention support equipment. The Maintenance Assistant assists with maintenance and repairs on structural, mechanical, hydraulic, life support, power generation, and compressed gas systems, painting and preservation of ferrous and non-ferrous metals, cleaning, housekeeping, crane rigging, operation of forklifts and pallet jacks, and inventories of material. This position is based at Undersea Rescue Command (URC), Naval Base Coronado, San Diego, CA and reports to the Lead Mechanical Technician. This is an "on call" 24-hour per day position.
CLASSIFICATION: NON-EXEMPT (HOURLY)
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
* Perform corrective and preventive maintenance as assigned by the Lead Mechanical Technician or designated supervisor.
* Perform and assist Technicians with controlled maintenance as required.
* Complete required records and forms and maintain up to date logs and documentation.
* Report deficiencies noted in the performance of maintenance to the Lead Mechanical Technician.
* Participate directly in the mobilization of rescue assets.
* Obtain operational certification on SRDRS watch stations, maintain qualification, and perform watch standing duties to support rescue and intervention systems, as directed.
* Qualify as a Quality Assurance (QA) craftsman.
* Support submarine search and rescue response events and mission phases 7-days a week, 24-hrs a day, as required (On call).
* Comply with established Phoenix QMS processes and procedures.
JOB REQUIREMENTS:
* Experience with basic mechanical and electrical repairs and baseline knowledge of tools and their uses.
* Ability to read, interpret, and troubleshoot from mechanical and hydraulic schematics.
* Familiarity with Lockout/Tagout safety procedures.
* Self-motivated with the ability to work in a team environment and to handle assignments independently.
* Ability to carry out tests and assignments with little to no supervision.
* Computer skills capability with competence in Microsoft Office Suite.
* Ability to work a minimum of 8-hours per day while in the base facility and 12-hours per day when at sea or deployed; under some circumstances, longer hours may be required.
* Possession of a current U.S. passport.
* Ability to obtain a U.S. government security clearance.
* Ability to travel worldwide, on short notice, for indefinite periods of time and available to travel on a no notice emergency basis.
* Ability to walk unassisted and carry 45 pounds.
* Ability to pass an initial drug/alcohol screen and subsequent random tests.
* Ability to pass the physical required for working offshore.
