Responsibilities
The Electromechanical Control Department (ECD) provides engineering/scientific support in the area of control system hardware and algorithms for both spacecraft and launch vehicles. ECD specializes in sensors such as accelerometers, gyroscopes, star trackers, encoders, and GPS receivers; in actuators including electric motors, reaction wheels, gimbals, and fast steering mirrors; and in integrated systems such as servomechanisms, line-of-sight pointing systems, and thrust vector control (TVC) systems.

Key Functions
Performs technical studies involving analysis, simulation, evaluation, or testing of control systems and their components on a variety of satellite or launch vehicle programs in a highly-structured team setting Experimentally investigate controller design and implementation, data reduction and visualization, sensor and actuator performance evaluation, and electro-optical systems calibration and alignment in the Mechatronics Research Laboratory Evaluate contractor designs, analyses, and overall system performance Support internal and external customers in technical interchange meetings, design and hardware reviews Some travel is required
This position can be filled as a Member of Technical Staff or a Senior Member of Technical Staff.

Qualifications
Required
Bachelor's degree in aerospace engineering, electrical engineering, mechanical engineering, physics, or a related technical discipline Two years of post-bachelor degree engineering or scientific experience or an advanced degree in engineering Experience working both independently and as a member of a team, with demonstrated ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships Experience communicating technical information effectively both orally and in writing with program management, contractors, and colleagues Ability to obtain and maintain a security clearance, which is issued by the U.S. government. U.S. citizenship is required to obtain a security clearance.
Preferred
MS/PhD degree with a strong background in control system sensors and actuators Understanding of one or more of the following would also be valued: launch vehicle systems (thrust vector control, guidance systems, and/or avionics), space vehicle control systems, mechanical design, structural analysis, dynamics, electronics, optics, signal processing, systems engineering, real-time software development, guidance and navigation, GPS receivers and associated algorithms, motors, small satellite development, or robotics Proficiency with any of the following tools: MATLAB/Simulink, dSPACE, LabVIEW, SolidWorks, C/C++, Python Active Secret Clearance with the ability to obtain a TS/SCI Security Clearance
Required for Senior Member of Technical Staff
