U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) was established in March 2003 as the largest investigative arm of the Department of Homeland Security charged with protecting America and upholding public safety by targeting the people, money, and materials that support terrorist and criminal activities.ICE's responsibilities include addressing the illegal immigration problem facing our nation through its primary duties: interior immigration enforcement and investigations, and the detention and removal of illegal immigrants. In addition to our primary duties, ICE also investigates human smuggling and trafficking, identity and benefits fraud, worksite enforcement, arms and strategic technology cases, etc. By combining its unique immigration and customs expertise, ICE harnesses all available human and technological resources to respond to threats and address vulnerabilities in homeland security.
