We are seeking a Senior Engineer Turbine AeroThermal Fluids to support our Turbine Aerothermal Systems team. The Turbine Aerothermal Systems team analyzes and develops the functional characteristics of non-gas-path elements of the turbine module, including air systems, thermal response, clearance optimization, bearing integration, heat loading, and efficiency optimization in a highly complex environment. Truly a systems role with deep technical skills to deploy cutting edge tools in CFD, proprietary codes, component testing in rigs, and design, execution, and analysis of full-scale engine testing.
As an Aerothermal core discipline, you are a member of an Integrated Product Team and a key contributions to the systems Integrated Product Team for the engine chaired by the Chief Engineer. The Senior Engineer Turbine AeroThermal Fluids role has a unique interface with the engine mechanical systems, air systems, and performance group which allows you to experience the entire engine, and make deep technical contributions with cutting edge aerothermal design and analysis methods.
Key Responsibilities:
Lead thermal and secondary air system analysis of the turbine module, working with a multidisciplinary team to support commercial and military engine programs, and Exercise both contributor and technical-leader in high performance teams interfacing with a diverse range of disciplines for module design.
Specific responsibilities include :
Use 1D compressible flow modeling and CFD to analyze and design gas turbine air systems; Generate CFD based thermal boundary conditions and knowledge or experience in conductive, convective and radiative heat transfer to create turbine rotor and casing thermal models.Specify engine validation test plans, reviewing engine and test rig data, and matching analytical models to engine data.Optimize air system architecture to ensure safety of flight, turbine hardware meets design life requirements, and gas turbine performance meets customer requirements.Operate independently to develop part and module solutions for turbines.Prioritize and support multiple projects with contending priorities on time and on budget.
Basic Qualifications:
2023-2024 PhD graduate with directly applicable research to gas turbine development.U.S. citizenship is required, as only U.S. citizens are authorized to access information under this program/contract.Travel up to 10%.
Preferred Qualifications:
Design and research experience in turbomachinery.Experience in three or more discipline areas: CFD, heat transfer, 1-D flow systems, rig testing, engine testing.Experience with a range of modern thermal-fluid analytical tools used in the gas turbine industry, including ANSYS Classic/Workbench and Fluent/CFX.Excellent communication skills both written and oral, with key examples of projects completed and documented through formal written and oral means. (e.g. publications, reports, detailed briefings) Examples of leadership in technical or professional teams.
