JOB DETAILS
Cell Reports is seeking a Senior Scientific Editor to join the journal. We are looking for a dynamic, enthusiastic, mission-oriented editor with relevant prior experience to play a leading role on our team.
Cell Reports is an online, open access journal that publishes thought-provoking and innovative papers across the entire life sciences spectrum. As a Senior Scientific Editor, you will be responsible for helping to advance the journal by recruiting exciting studies and review content; assessing submitted research papers; selecting and collaborating with referees; writing and editing content for the journal homepage and social media outlets; collaborating with editors at other Cell Press journals on transfer submissions; and engaging authors throughout the review process. In your senior role, you will also be involved in mentoring and supporting other members of the editorial team. You will play an active role in the development and implementation of journal strategy, and represent Cell Reports in the broader company. The job also entails traveling to scientific conferences and research institutions where you would directly engage with the scientific community to keep abreast of the most recent research developments and to communicate the journal's mission to support science.
This is a full-time in-house editorial position, based at the Cell Press office in Cambridge, Massachusetts. We are also open to applications in other locations where Cell Reports has editorial presence. Cell Press offers an attractive salary and benefits package and a stimulating working environment. Applications will be held in the strictest of confidence.
Applications will be considered on a rolling basis until March 30, 2019. Your application must include a cover letter describing your interest in the position and how your skills and knowledge would further scientific communication and contribute to building the journal and advancing its mission.
REQUIREMENTS
The minimum qualifications for this position are a Ph.D in a research area covered by the journal and at least three years of relevant editorial experience. Applicants with additional professional background such as running a research group or working in industry are strongly encouraged. The key qualities we look for are breadth of scientific interest, the ability to think critically about a wide range of scientific issues, strong communication skills, and the ability to work well in a team. The specific details of the role and responsibilities will depend on the expertise of the candidate involved.
