EMPLOYEE STATUS: FLSA Exempt

Location: AMVETS HQ, Lanham, MD
(Currently hybrid work model, 60% on site)

Salary: $80,000 per annum (plus outstanding benefits package)

FUNCTION:
The Director of Communications and Outreach is responsible for developing and executing marketing and communication strategies, assisting in managing organizational events, directly supporting fundraising and sponsorships.

ORGANIZATIONAL RELATIONSHIPS:
The National Membership Director reports to the AMVETS National Executive Director.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include but are not limited to:
• Develops and implements communications plans with cost-effective marketing and outreach strategies to communicate with U.S. military veterans and other related stakeholders
• Create, write, edit, and produce social media content, podcasts, press releases, videos, collateral, newsletters, and other printed materials, including annual reports
• Update and maintain organization’s website, online publications, and social media
• Communicate and collaborate with a range of people and organizations to advance AMVETS’ important mission
• Provide marketing support to AMVETS fundraising efforts
• Any other duties as assigned

SKILLS/KNOWLEDGE REQUIRED:
• Bachelor’s degree in in marketing, public relations, journalism, or business, highly preferred
• Minimum 2-3 years marketing, events and/or fundraising experience; Any combination of education and experience that demonstrates the ability to perform the work successfully
• Demonstrates excellent organizational skills with attention to detail
• Excellent written and verbal communications skills
• Effective in managing timelines and project budgets
• Capacity to manage multiple projects simultaneously and successfully
• Energetic and personable; takes initiative and thinks creatively
• Experience with website and newsletter production and message development
• Nonprofit experience a plus
• Some travel required (10-20%)
• Promotes and adheres to organization’s mission, vision and values, and policies in a fair and equitable manner
• Veteran strongly preferred
