Technical Writer/Researcher/Editor

General Description:

The Technical Writer/Researcher/Editor will provide professional and extensive research and writing support in the day-to-day operations of the unit.

Major Duties:
Provide instruction and guidance on writing and editing of reports, white papers, monographs, and training or instructional material. Maintain central document control for all papers drafted and developed. Formats, edits, and prepares educational material for adult learners. Ensures educational material is accurate, complete, meets editorial and government specifications, and adheres to standards for quality, graphics, coverage, format, and style. Reviews and edits documents developed by others to ensure accuracy and quality of content, organization, language, format consistency, and conformance with established standards. Works with assessment and instructional teams to ensure final documents meet stated requirements. Develop, recommend, and maintain editorial policies and branding guidelines. Edit reports, memorandums, educational documents, and other written materials to maintain continuity of content and style. Review translated material for consistency and formatting. Reviews and provides feedback on drafts of content, exercises, breakouts and case studies ensuring training material meet the ATA training guidelines Maintain a comprehensive library of terminology and documentation Conduct research of case studies relevant to unit responsibilities and products. Draft, edit, and review Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and other procedural documents.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE:

Professional Qualifications/Skills:
Must be a US citizen and possess or be able to obtain/maintain a SECRET clearance; Bachelor's degree and three years of experience or a combination of experience (seven years writing experience) and education or certifications required; Familiar with training organizations is preferable, within any local, county, municipal, state or federal or military law enforcement institution; Must be highly organized and have excellent oral and written communication skills in order to interface with ATA personnel, other Department of State Bureaus, and other government civilian agencies at all levels for required research and coordination; Ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously; Must demonstrate thorough knowledge of Microsoft applications (MS Word, PowerPoint). Solid Excel experience is a must; Must be able to demonstrate excellent research, writing, editing, and proofreading skills to draft and review narrative and technical documents; Knowledge of basic accounting skills is helpful; Experience with or understanding of government procurement, e.g., acquisition policy and procedures, is preferred, but not required; Experience working with databases; Ability to work independently.
