Mechanical Engineer - Structures
KBR is looking for an experienced and highly motivated Structures/Mechanical Engineer in our El Segundo, CA office to support the Enterprise Mission Assurance Team (EMAT). The EMAT's mission is to deliver technically superior risk assessments and smart risk mitigation options to ensure SSC space systems' mission success in support of the joint warfighter and the nation.
The SSC Portfolio Architect (SMC/ZA) maintains the EMAT to provide independent assessments of program risks and risk mitigation options to SSC leadership for designated SSC launch vehicles and space vehicles. The EMAT acts independently from the programs under its review, and the SSC/CC is the final authority for directing and authorizing reviews by the EMAT. The EMAT ensures the Space Systems Command (SSC) space vehicles and launch vehicles are ready to fly before launch and are built perform properly over the systems' mission life.
Responsibilities: Support the Structures/Mechanical Panel by providing technical assistance in the areas of space and launch vehicle systems. Technical evaluation and risk assessments of mechanical aspects of hardware, moving mechanisms, materials, mechanical interfaces, and other aspects of hardware in space systems and launch vehicle systems. Advisory and Assistance Services (A&AS) support, including subject matter expertise (SME), as directed in various SSC guidance documents Support IPTs with developing draft charts in support of Readiness Reviews Perform peer reviews as a member of technical panels on space vehicles and launch vehicles developed by SSC's prime development contractors, sub-contractors, and vendors Required Qualifications: Technical Bachelor's and Technical Master's Degrees are required Minimum 10+ years of hands-on design, build, or test experience in one or more of the following areas: pressure vessels, mechanisms (actuators, valves), and composites Significant experience with performing risk analysis and mitigation on space flight hardware Extremely motivated individual who is a self-starter and a team player Demonstrated experience with executing tasks in a timely manner Demonstrated experience with team leadership and program/project management; working with Space Force and DoD contractors in a development environment; writing and delivering technical documents and briefings Security Clearance: Must have an active Secret clearance
