Job Description:

Science Systems and Applications Inc. (SSAI) is seeking candidates for a Product Development Lead role on the ESES III contract at NASA's Goddard Space Flight Center (GSFC). This engineering candidate will provide support to GSFC Code 596 in the development of a LiDAR (Light Detection and Ranging) system. The NASA project team is currently working on two separate LIDAR systems; one system will be flown aboard the Dragonfly mission to Titan, the other system has a potential application aboard a lunar rover mission. The two systems will share some common electronics elements. This PDL role will serve as the technical leader for one of the LIDAR systems.

The candidate will provide engineering leadership to the LIDAR technical team for one of the LIDAR systems. The engineer will provide technical oversight, leadership, and management for the technical product.

This is a technical leadership role. Candidates must have demonstrated experience in providing oversight, guidance, mentoring, and direction to teams of technicians and engineers.

Responsibilities will include:Aligning a product development team to a vision of success.Organizing and guiding a technical team.Balancing resources and managing project schedule demands.Arranging facilities, materials, support and personnel.Providing technical oversight and facilitating communication between stakeholders.Reviewing schedule and budget requirements, V&V plans, documentation such as procedures, work orders, etc..Interact with QA, safety, and project stakeholders.Guiding and coordinating environmental testing to include vibration, TVAC, and EMI.Ensure that component developers are meeting expectations for schedule and quality requirements.Required Qualifications:Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Physics, or similar, and 10+ years of relevant experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.Experience delivering electronics box-level subsystems to spacecraftincluding experience with instruments with optical components and lasersStrong interpersonal skills such as oral and written communications, technical writing, and presentation skills.Self-starter with ability to organize and delegate to a technical team, address roadblocks and technical issues, and cooperatively lead a team to product completion.Experience leading spacecraft development teams.Must be a U.S. Person, which includes but limited to U.S. Citizenship and U.S. permanent resident (Green Card holder)Desired Qualifications:Experience with lidar or other range-finding technologies.Experience with spacecraft development projects.Demonstrated hands-on systems engineering experience.Familiarity with optics and opto-mechanical engineering.Analytical skills, GNC, MATLAB, signal processing, machine vision, MEMS, RF, digital-to-analog circuit board design and test.Planning and integration of complex systems.GSE for hardware V&V.General familiarity with scopes, waveform generators,General familiarity with lasers, fiber optics, and associated equipment.General familiarity with spacecraft thermal analysis.EOE/including disability/vets
