Job Description:

Science Systems and Applications, Inc. seeks to fill an entry to mid-level Instrument Calibration Engineer position in the Biospheric Sciences Laboratory at NASA Goddard Space Flight Center (GSFC). The instrument calibration engineer will work as part of a team to calibrate, maintain, and deploy domestically and internationally remote sensing instrumentation. This position will support the Aerosol Robotic Network (AERONET) project.

Highlights:AERONET project supporting the international science community for more than 30 yearsOn-site work at a NASAInstrument calibrationDomestic and international travelCollaborative team environmentDuties include but not limited to:Process incoming and outgoing instrumentation and equipmentPerform instrument radiance calibration on NIST-traceable integrating spheresRoutinely install and remove instruments on the NASA calibration platformDisassembling and assembling instrument componentsCalibrate instrumentation, process data, and analyze resultsRequirements:Bachelor's degree in engineering or physical sciences and a familiarity with electronics test equipment including power supplies, oscilloscopes, and metersAbility to communicate effectively in writing and verbal communicationCapable of working both independently and collaboratively in a team environmentAbility to carry or maneuver heavy objects, climb ladders and stairs, and work on tall buildings and towersDomestic and international travel to deploy and maintain instrumentation (up to 15% annually)U.S. citizen or permanent residentDesired Skills and Qualities:Experience in working with remote sensing instrumentationExperience in a calibration laboratory environmentFamiliarity with cleanroom practices and conditionsFamiliarity with Altium, KiCad, Python or similar softwareExperience in understanding Earth Science or physical measurement dataEOE, including disability/vets
