Job Description:

Science Systems and Applications, Inc. (SSAI) has an immediate opening to support the Stratospheric Aerosol and Gas Experiment (SAGE-III) Mission Operations Team at NASA Langley Research Center. The SAGE-III mission package was installed aboard the International Space Station (ISS) in early 2017 with the goal of helping to better understand and protect Earth's atmosphere. This dynamic team of engineers, scientists and analysts continue to provide outstanding science to the global atmospheric research community. You'll learn a variety of skills such as spacecraft orbit modeling and prediction, occultation science of ozone, aerosols and water vapor, and interface with ISS personnel through command and control channels.

The successful candidate will support the SAGE-III Mission Operations Team in two ways, one as a member of the command and monitor group, where they will develop, test and send commands to the ISS to ensure the smooth, continuous operation of the payload instruments, monitor performance and provide secure, consistent data downloads based on ISS scheduling requirements. Detailed training will be provided and initially paired with an experienced team member.

Additional responsibilities will include algorithm and code development to aid in the analysis, trending and graphical display of the payload instruments aboard the ISS. The analysis will be presented at weekly team meetings, ISS working group meetings, major science conferences, and combined for reports and publications.

REQUIRED B.S. degree or higher in Engineering, Computer Science, Physics or other science/engineering related disciplines. Demonstrated programming experience using Python language and Python packages (i.e. Jupyter Notebook, SciPy, Matplotlib, etc.) Possess strong analytical skills to support scientific analysis and interpretationAbility to work independently as well as within an dynamic team of scientists and engineersExcellent verbal and written communication skills as the selected applicant will have the opportunity to contribute to peer-reviewed publications and/or science conference presentations. DESIRED Experience working with geospatial data, to convert, analyze and display measurement dataExperience troubleshooting to diagnose problems and provide innovative solutions to resolve issues.
