Job Description
Eastern State Hospital, located in Williamsburg, Virginia, was founded in 1773, with a well-intentional emphasis on community focused mental health care. This state of the art campus, situated on 500 acres, consists of two patient care buildings with 300 patients, and a highly skilled staff of over 900. Eastern State Hospital is part of the Department of Behavioral Health and Developmental Services ( DBHDS ) system, and is accredited by the Joint Commission.
 
Eastern State Hospital invites qualified applicants to apply for the position of Payroll Technician.

This position ensures accurate payment of employees and the timely and accurate preparation of payrolls. Performs a full range of payroll processing activities to include calculation, preparation, processing and reconciliation. Processes payroll categories classified and hourly. Validates leave balances for classified employees. Ensures employees participating in the Virginia Sickness and Disability Program are paid accurately during periods of short term or working long-term disability. Supports ESH's vision, mission and values.

This position is considered essential personnel and would be required to work in the event of an emergency, pandemic, or facility need. All ESH positions are required to work different shifts to include nights, weekends and holidays, and/or overtime as requested.

Minimum Qualifications
• Experience in automated payroll and leave accounting system. 

• Knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles and practices associated with payroll, leave and benefit accountability. 
 
• Knowledge of payroll, leave and benefits accounting function and operations. 
 
• Ability to work independently, but also function as a team member. 
 
• Ability to analyze payroll transactions for conformance with policies and procedures. 
 
• Working knowledge of PC Operations and experience using spreadsheets and word processing. 
 
• Experience with Kronos or other automated timekeeping system. 
 
• Strong mathematical skills. 
 
• Experience with Commonwealth Integrated Payroll Personnel System ( CIPPS ). 
 
• Customer service experience. 

Preferred Qualifications
• High School Diploma or equivalent.
