This is a hourly position with no state benefits.

Eastern State Hospital, located in Williamsburg, Virginia, was founded in 1773, with a well-intentional emphasis on community focused mental health care. This state of the art campus, situated on 500 acres, consists of two patient care buildings with 300 patients, and a highly skilled staff of over 900. Eastern State Hospital is part of the Department of Behavioral Health and Developmental Services ( DBHDS ) system, and is accredited by the Joint Commission.

ESH invites applications for the position of a Security Officer III (Part-Time).

 
The Security Officer III serves to provide a safe environment for patients, staff, and visitors at ESH by maintaining adequate coverage in order for the Public Safety Department to fulfill its mission statement at Eastern State Hospital.  This position will be responsible for checking in and scanning all visitors in the front lobbies of Building 1 and Building 2 as well as patients that may be returning via the front lobbies by use of he walk through metal detector and hand wand. This position is also responsible for checking in and scanning all patients upon returning from trips.

Shift: This position is Rotational (with Holidays and Weekends included).

Each officer is sworn by the Court of James City County and is fully empowered to make an arrest for any state and local violation.

Minimum Qualifications

• Must possess good public relations, strong interpersonal skills, and oral and written communication skills. 

 
• Valid Virginia Driver's license and excellent driving record. 

 
• Experience in preparing reports and investigation techniques. 

 
• Must be able to perform physical tasks to include restraining, secluding and controlling combative patients. 

 
• Experience conducting foot and vehicle patrol. 

 
• Experience utilizing computers. 

 
• Must have the ability to complete Special Conservator of the Peace training and obtain certification. 

 
• Experience in law enforcement, security, or related fields and positions meeting and dealing with the general public as a supplier for services.

Preferred Qualifications
• Certification as a Special Conservator of the Peace.
