Job Description:

Software Engineer Intern - May 2020 (8 - 16 months)

At Garmin Canada, we create more than just products - we inspire solutions and innovations that change and shape how we live, work and play. You'll get to work alongside top talent from around the globe while working on cutting-edge technology projects like optical heart-rate, creating sport and fitness products such as Vector and Varia, and enabling compelling ecosystems with Bluetooth Low Energy and the ANT 2.4 GHz ultra-low power wireless technology.

Nestled in the foothills of the Rocky Mountains, we're located just 15-minutes outside of Calgary in Cochrane, Alberta. A retreat from fast-paced cities - Cochrane allows us to build relationships with the community and focus on what we do best - creating innovative solutions for unique use-cases in the ultra-low power wireless and sport industries.

Here's why you want to work for us.

You'll help bring products to life. Contribute to our exciting portfolio of Garmin products and help us bring our fitness and sport devices from concept to market.

You'll love our office culture. Company BBQs, active sports, casual dress, volunteer opportunities and the occasional sneak peak of new release movies (Star Wars, anyone?) all allow team members to get to know each other outside the office.

You'll be part of something big. Our open concept, open door policy office supports a fun, collaborative and supportive work culture. All our team members, regardless of their team, are encouraged to think big and share their ideas. Our team members are innovators, solution creators and outside the box thinkers ready to take on any challenge.

Here's what we're looking for from you.
* Develop software in C, C++ or other selected languages for products under the guidance of a more experienced software engineer
* Test software using debuggers, emulators, simulators, and logic analyzers
* Learn to perform software releases and software quality assurance activities
* Perform maintenance activities for products already in production in addition to new product software design
* Examples of previous work, side-projects or anything else that can show your passion for software engineering or making ideas come to life. Show us what you've got!
* Excitement to create and deliver products for cycling, running, swimming and fitness!
Minimum Qualifications

* Completed coursework in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Software Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Computer Engineering, Math or Physics
* Strong academics (cumulative GPA greater than or equal to 3.0 as a general rule)
* Strong verbal and written communication skills
* Relevant experience and/or training in high level languages such as C and C++

Desirable Qualifications

* A passion for working with embedded systems
* Excellent academics (composite GPA greater than or equal to 3.5)
* A keen interest in fitness, health and/or wellness
