Job Description
Norfolk Naval Shipyard (NNSY) is seeking highly skilled IT Specialists to keep the Navy’s ships, submarines, buildings, and other structures strong and sound. NNSY is home to approximately 11,000 military and civilian personnel, located in Portsmouth, Virginia on 1,275 acres and is one of the oldest and most multi-faceted shipyards in the country.

JOB SUMMARY
As an IT Specialist at NNSY, you will serve as the subject matter expert (SME) in overall Information Technology (IT) to support complex IT projects, including studies of hardware and software requirements and developing technical configurations of cost analysis for the Technical Support Division, Information Technology and Cyber Security Office of the Server and Storage Administration Branch of the NNSY located at the Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, Naval Foundry and Propeller Center Internal Confidential Network (NFPCICN) facility.

DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES
Ensure the confidentiality, integrity and availability of systems, networks and data through the analysis, development, implementation and maintenance of information systems security programs, policies, procedures, and tools
Perform systems analysis, design, planning, development, testing, implementation, managing, and updating of servers and workstations, creating Virtual Server software infrastructure, and installing fiber network cabling, and network hardware including media converters, switches and routers
Ensure compliance with all ANSI/EIA/TIA standards and conducting system security evaluations, audits and reviews and implementing timely corrections to ensure compliance with Information Assurance (IA) requirements
Provide expert technical support to user departments in the procurement, development, utilization, and maintenance of the latest techniques in applications, software, systems, and hardware equipment
Implement disaster recovery operations for the Server Administration functional area on the NFPCICN network
Provide IT engineering or senior technician services for specified areas of responsibility to diagnose and resolve complex problems and issues including hardware and software performance.
Ensure adherence to the security and configuration requirements of DOD and DISA
Perform other related duties as assigned

Requirements

REQUIRED SKILLS/ABILITIES
Extensive knowledge of overall Federal, DOD and departmental policy, business rules and regulations, Information Assurance policies, STIGS, patching tools, and other tools required to maintain the security of the network serving as the SME for all installations on servers, workstations, and standalone systems onsite
Expert working knowledge of the latest virtual server and workstation software and hardware infrastructure
Expert working knowledge of Microsoft Windows platform, the latest enterprise level backup software technologies, maintenance and monitoring of storage systems, life cycle management concepts and cost-benefit analysis methods
Excellent oral and written communication skills and analytical ability to effectively interface with senior level management and diverse user groups to include oral and visual presentations

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
A Bachelor’s degree and a minimum of two years’ experience with the protection requirements for Naval Nuclear Propulsion Information (NNPI) systems.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
Ability to work inside and outside of various shipyard buildings and on-board ships in confined areas of data processing environments where temperatures are controlled at between 68 – 72 degrees but can vary according to conditions
Working in conditions at and to and from worksites that may include slippery or uneven surfaces
Correct use and wear of personal protective equipment (PPE) including anti-contamination clothing and respirators where required
Possible exposure to potentially harmful physical and chemical agents
Ability to lift and carry 45 pounds and more
Use of fingers, both hands, pushing, pulling, reaching above shoulders, stooping, twisting, both legs for walking, standing, crawling, kneeling, repeated bending, the use of both arms and legs for climbing, ability for rapid mental and muscular coordination simultaneously
Normal hearing ability; the use of aid(s) acceptable
Normal vision in both eyes and the ability to distinguish basic colors and shades of colors
Ability to sit for long periods of time
Ability to participate in one on one conversations, in telephone conversations and with groups of people
May be required to take a medical examination
A drug test is required for employment

QUALIFICATIONS
Must be a US citizen
Must have or be able to obtain and maintain a Secret Security Clearance based on a Single Scope Background Investigation which includes credit, criminal, and motor vehicle reports
Must be able to work assigned projects and shifts including second, third and rotating
Overtime, callback and/or carrying a duty phone may be required
Travel away from normal duty station is required, therefore incumbent must be able to obtain and maintain a government issued passport and credit card
Must attain and maintain the required Information Assurance Technical professional certification within six (6) months of selection to this position
Must sign the Information System Privileged Access Agreement and Acknowledgement of Responsibilities Statement


Benefits
Salary: $77,091.00
Hiring Incentive: Up to $7,500 with 2-year agreement
