The Curry School of Education and Human Development at the University of Virginia is seeking a University Student Teacher Supervisor.

The Teacher Education Program in the Department of Curriculum, Instruction, and Special Education is seeking University Student Teacher Supervisors with teaching or supervision experience in elementary education, special education, science, foreign language and math to provide supervision to student teachers. University Student Teacher Supervisors complete several days of paid training, facilitate meetings with each mentor teacher-student pair, conduct 8 video-based observation cycles per teacher candidate per year (fall and spring), communicate candidates' progress to the Teacher Education faculty and staff, and complete observation feedback prompts and mid-term/ final evaluations. Incumbents must have high-speed internet access and personal tablets or computers with video streaming capability, experience using learning management and/or assessment management web-based programs, and be able to respond to email within 24 business hours. University Student Teacher Supervisors may also be asked to facilitate seminars and provide additional support to students in their locale. Opportunities are available only in Charlottesville; potential applicants must live in the greater Charlottesville/ Albemarle County area to be considered for this part-time position.

Applicants must be available to attend training from at a time determined by theDepartment of CISE in Charlottesville. Applicants must have a bachelor's or master's degree in education and at least three years of full-time experience teaching students between the ages of 4 and 18 in public schools (in elementary education, special education, math, or science). A master's degree in education and five or more years of experience teaching in public schools is preferred. Previous experience mentoring or supervising teachers is also preferred. Experience with novice teachers is also preferred. Outstanding verbal and written communication skills are required, as is excellent judgment and decision-making. Knowledge of current best practices in education is also required, as is a current or previously held professional teaching license. In addition, knowledge of adult learning theories, teacher education, and novice teacher development are a must. Comfort using web-based applications that require login, chat/messaging, and streaming video (e.g. Google Hangout and Skype), and learning assessment and management systems are required. Use of basic computer applications (Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, and Excel) is also required.
