Position Name: Transition Assistance Advisor
Job Summary: Provide transition assistance services, benefit awareness and information to eligible reserve component members, Veterans and their families. TAAs serve in each State, the District of Columbia, and any territory of the United States to serve as points of contact to assist eligible members of the reserve components, their families and Veterans in accessing benefits and healthcare furnished under the laws administered by the Secretary of Defense and benefits and health care furnished under the laws administered by the Secretary of Veteran’s Affairs.

Job Responsibilities:
Provides administrative and analytical support to the TAA Program Management Team
Conducts periodic reviews and analysis of program Ops and training.
Performs Regional and State TAA duties as required by the PM/DPM.
Coordinate dates, locations and TAA attendance at Community Care Unit (CCU) musters or other training events for state TAA attendance.
Prepare an Individual Transition Packet (ITP) and Transition Assistance Program (TAP) Checklist for Reserve Component Service Members (DD2648-1).
Transition assistance advisors shall provide information and advisory services with regard to: Department of Veterans Affairs programs and policies, specifically Veterans Health Administration, Veterans Benefits Administration, National Cemetery Administration, TRICARE programs and policies, pre and post mobilization entitlements/requirements, medical hold over status, Active Duty Medical Extension (ADME), Transition Assistance for Military Personnel (TAMP), DoD Transition Assistance Program (DoDTAP) for Managers and Counselors web application, the Army ACAP XXI database, the Air Force AFIRST database, the Veterans Opportunity to Work (VOW) requirements, the Career Readiness Standards, CAPSTONE requirements and be knowledgeable of Reserve Component statuses and entitlements.
Perform outreach services including both social media and marketing methods in order to provide information and assistance to Reserve Component members, Veterans and their families in understanding and obtaining benefits and services through Veterans Affairs and the military health system. Topics include: Effects of a career change, Employment assistance relocation assistance (homelessness), Education/training physical health and mental health well-being, Health and life insurance, Finances, Disabled Veteran benefits, legal assistance, public and community service, job announcements, job fairs, and Separation Pay.
Coordinate with appropriate Veterans Affairs, TRICARE, Veteran Service Organizations, and other resources to provide required information and assistance.
Participate in the mobilization and demobilization process to brief/advise Reserve Component members and their families on transition and information resources.
Research and resolve issues associated with transition when Reserve Component member and/or their family members encounter problems.
Coordinate with Veterans Affairs centers to assist law enforcement, court systems, state mental health authorities and fire departments with awareness concerning Reserve Component service members and Veterans that may need crisis intervention.
Identify barriers encountered by reserve component members, their families, and Veterans regarding receipt of entitlements and the actions taken to determine trends and areas that require further attention

Qualifications Needed:
• Minimum of an Associates Degree (Bachelors Degree Preferred) or equivalent (3-years minimum) work-life experience in fields such as the veterans administration, social services, human resources, employment services or a related field in counseling, behavioral science, social science, Human Resource Management or Education.
• Military experience is preferred but not required.
• Broad knowledge, experience, and skills in the areas of military personnel, and human resources, especially as they relate to translating military service to civilian employment.
• Be a superb written and verbal communicator; adept at public speaking and able to conduct briefings to small and large groups of stakeholders, beneficiaries and Reserve Component leadership.
• Ability to perform outreach and to work collaboratively with Reserve Components of all Services, the Department of Veteran’s Affairs, TRICARE, and other Federal, State, Local and Community Support Organizations in support of Transition Assistance Programs and their beneficiaries.
• Must maintain a valid, unrestricted motor vehicle license and have transportation.
• Be computer literate and shall possess the basic computer skills necessary to prepare briefing slides and program documentation, enter data in required management reports and utilize information systems to prepare required reports and information.
• Applicants must successfully undergo a National Agency Check (NACI) background investigation.
