About the ORAA Intern Program:

The NSA Office of Reasonable Accommodations and Accessibility Intern Program has several intense and exciting 12 week internships open to select masters and bachelor level sign language interpreting students and counseling/psychology students. Interns will gain practical experience within workplace accommodations and will gain a broad understanding of the reasonable accommodation process and implementation by working alongside experienced sign language interpreters and reasonable accommodation experts.

You will receive training and be part of the team from day one. You will be assigned a supervisor to help you quickly learn and acclimate. During your first few days on the team, you will participate in an overview to become familiar with mission of NSA and within the Intelligence Community (IC).

Specific skills obtained for the Reasonable Accommodation Case Manger Intern position include:
-Gaining sound knowledge of the fundamental concepts of reasonable accommodation process, from the initial request for accommodations though the implementation of the approved accommodations.
-Collaboration skills by working directly with employees, management and resources available at NSA.
-Enhancement of ADA and section 504 and 508 knowledge and compliance requirements.
-Enhancement of counseling skills to aid employees and managers in the accommodation process.
-Training/presentation skills by facilitating briefings on working with persons with disabilities for various offices and staff at NSA.

Specific skills obtained for the Sign Language Interpreter Intern position include:
-Gaining sound knowledge of the fundamental concepts of interpreting and managing communication within highly technical and dynamic work environments.
-Collaboration skills by working directly with employees, management and resources available at NSA.
-Enhanced understanding of NAD-RID Code of Professional Conduct and how it applies in the workplace setting.
-Develop professional/personal skills that enable a skillful navigation through the diverse interpreting needs presented by the NSA community.

Pay, Benefits, & Work Schedule:
- Students are paid a competitive salary commensurate with their education level.
- Receive annual leave, sick leave and paid federal holidays
- Participation in agency-wide extracurricular programs
- Daily transportation to and from work is not provided. Students participating in the program are highly encouraged to bring a vehicle. Carpooling with other students MAY be available but NOT guaranteed.
- Subsidized housing accommodations are available upon request if school is located in excess of 75 miles from NSA main HQs campus
