Job Description:

Concentric Methods is seeking aNurse Practitioner to join our team in Bethesda, MD in support of the NIH.

Responsibilities:
Complete in-depth documentationthrough written progress notes, dictation summaries, and communication with referring physicians, according to medical record documentation requirements Participate in clinical rounds and conferences Administer and adjust trial medication under the guidance of physician Explain discharge instructions and medication regimens to patients and follow up with consulting service recommendations Order, perform, and interpret basic laboratory diagnostic/treatment tests and procedures Perform comprehensive health care assessments by obtaining health and family medical histories Complete physical examinations Perform clinical data recording and medical chart entries Obtain informed consent Maintain and complete medical records Place orders for medications and tests Perform retrievals from electronic medical information system Distinguish between normal and abnormal findings; determine which findings need further evaluation and/or collaboration assessment Develop and implement a plan for care, including appropriate patient/family counseling and education based on in-depth knowledge of the specific patient populations and/or protocols Evaluate, modify and revise care plan at appropriate intervals Work with staff on acute and non-acute clinical problems and toxicities Assess needs and/or problem areas and plan appropriate therapeutic measures Work with staff on developing, implementing and evaluating medical services policies and practices Ensure compliance with applicable licensure/certifications requirements, healthcare standards, governmental laws and regulations, and policies, procedures and philosophy in nature Work with staffon extensive clinical trialprograms focused on developing novel therapies Attend scheduled patient care rounds and didactic lecture sessions of the clinical team to which s/he is assigned Counsel, support, and educate patients and staff on matters relating to health and research studies/protocols Develop patient rapport and provide emotional support in helping patients cope with stress associated with illnesses Develop written protocols for management of illnesses and injuries in conjunction with either/or the consulting and referring physician Diagnose and managecommon acute or stable chronic health problems, injuries, and illnesses making assessments of acute and non-acute clinical problems andtoxicities Dictate admission and discharge summaries Interpret and document diagnostic tests and studies related to clinical trial interventionsand patient conditions Ensure that unusual problems are referred to physicians or an administrative supervisor Independently evaluate patients in both the inpatient and out patient clinic settings; perform all activities in coordination with a government attending physician Liaise with Leidos Biomed and various NCI staff to initiate and complete tasks relating to medicine and clinical protocols, and all activities related to nursing Attend, participate in and conduct staff development and continuing education programs Medically diagnose common short term or stable chronic health problems, injuries and illnesses Monitor and evaluate health effects related to new/ongoing protocol studies Monitor and grade side effects related to a variety of study interventions, including drugs and psychological behaviors Pre-screen and recruit patients to trials Promote health maintenance and disease prevention programs Provide assessments of acute and non-acute medical problems and contraindications to patients participating in studies Provide medical on-call services on a rotating schedule Provide documentation and Monitoring/ grading of side effects related to variety of study interventions including drugs and psychological behaviors Provide health care maintenance, diagnostic and therapeutic services, education and counseling Provide medical evaluation and longitudinal follow up of participants enrolled in clinical trails Screen and monitor medical status of patients/subjects participating in research studies and/or protocols Talk to new patients referred to the service about available protocols Assess the client's general health status through observation and the use of appropriate screening procedures Acquire client data through health history taking that includes family history and significant social information Perform a comprehensive physical assessment and document findings in the appropriate format following institutional and protocol standards Provide teaching and guidance related to the client's current state of health and understanding of his/her disease and promote optimal performance Coordinate study enrollment; collaborate with nursing staff to provide protocol treatment; provide follow up care for brain tumor patients participating in clinical trails Work with the principle investigator on the process of ensuring informed consent and obtaining written consent for treatment; pharmacokinetics;assess patients on study for complications-document and communicate to principle investigator According to established protocol, institutional, and practice guidelines, calculate the dose ofthe prescribe chemotherapy, investigationalagents,medications, intravenous fluids and blood products Provide guidance in the management of specific problems for the patient on chemotherapy, immunotherapy or other treatments and/or patient with progressive disease Manage appropriate referrals to other specialists as indicated Order radiological studies, following protocols and patients care guidelines Order and interpret lab studies With the neuro-oncologist attend the new patientconsultation with client and family for the purpose of explaining the diagnosis,protocol, and treatment program; explaining the Neouro-Oncology NP role; and establishing a rapport with the client and family Perform initial and follow up assessment(s),progress notes and written correspondence to multidisciplinary personnel Serve as a clinical liaison to area hospices and/or home care agencies Act as a clinical liaison between inpatient and outpatient nurses in order to provide continuity of care to the hospitalized patient Maintain documented evidence of weekly case review with the collaborating physician Attend and participate in multidisciplinary meeting such as monthly Tumor Board and neuropathology review

Master's degree in Nursing, with a Nurse Practitioner license and ANCC certification Minimum of four (4) years of related experience Strong Communication skills, both oral and written Excellent analytical, organizational and time management skills
