Duties

This is what you will do: This position supports the WSP Fire Training Academy by performing a variety of skilled labor in the operation, maintenance, repair, remodeling and construction of buildings, grounds, machinery, mechanical facilities, systems and equipment. The incumbent is expected to work independently with some direction and prioritization by the supervisor and to utilize a general knowledge of several related skill fields such as plumbing, electrical, welding, carpentry and machinist work.
 
Primary Responsibilities:
Constructs and repairs fire training props including carpentry, steel fabrication and welding projects. Performs preventative maintenance to all buildings including structural, mechanical, and electrical aspects. Performs daily tasks to accommodate training, including system startup and shutdown, and snow removal. Monitors fuel delivery systems, water delivery systems, mechanical, electrical and plumbing systems. Assists the Maintenance Supervisor in instructing and leading other lower level staff in field repairs and projects. Recommends the purchase of supplies and equipment needed for normal business operations. Completes and maintains records and reports as required. Completes water sampling and testing.

This position has been designated as "in-training" - as such, we will consider filling this position at the Maintenance Mechanic 1 level.  The salary range will depend upon which level the position is filled at and the qualifications of the successful candidate.

Salary:
Maintenance Mechanic 1: $3,871 - $4,378
Maintenance Mechanic 2: $4,161 - $4,714

Qualifications
Required Qualifications:
High school graduation or GED. Completion of a recognized apprenticeship program in a skilled mechanical trade; or four years of experience in mechanical repair work as a full time helper; or four years of experience in mechanical repair as a full time Maintenance Mechanic 1. Operational knowledge of plumbing, equipment and building maintenance. Must have a valid Washington State Class B commercial driver's license. Must be able to lift 50 lbs. Ability to perform physical activity/labor both indoors and outdoors in all types of weather. This position is subject to the drug and alcohol testing requirements of the Federal Highway Administration. Valid Washington State Drivers License with Class B Commercial Drivers License including Water Tank Endorsement must be obtained within six months of employment. 
Desired Qualifications:
Experience working with fire equipment, including self contained breathing apparatus, bunker gear, and fire hydrant maintenance. Knowledge and experience with operation of a snow plow. At least 2 years of operational knowledge of plumbing, equipment and building maintenance.

Transcripts:
Education verification is part of the selection process. Retirement and Deferred Compensation

This is a supplemental retirement savings program (similar to an IRA) that allows you control over the amount of pre-tax salary dollars you defer as well as the flexibility to choose between multiple investment options.

Vacation (Annual Leave)

You begin accruing vacation starting your first month of employment. Since we value your loyalty, the amount of vacation you can accrue increases the longer you work with us. Washington State supports members of the armed forces with 21 days paid military leave per year. Vacation accrues for full-time employees per WAC 357-31-165 .
