Scope of Job :  The Commercial Manager independently leads certain areas of work on behalf of the Atlantic Shores Commercial director - and by doing so supports in guiding the JV through the wider Commercial landscape.
 
This position requires an understanding of business development in energy markets and renewable energy contracts.   Specific experience leading teams to capture competitive pursuits is essential.   The position requires the capability to develop solutions for target opportunities and support senior management in business development and partnerships.   Managing relationships with customers & partners is as important as solution development. The Commercial Manager will be responsible for managing all the activities necessary to transform opportunities of various types into winning concepts for Atlantic Shores.
This includes but is not limited to: Commercial analyses for current projects or future bids, Competitive Intelligence, Contracting & Procurement (incl. efforts to localize the Offshore Wind supply chain into East Coast USA) and various Strategic topics in the JV's commercial domain. The Commercial Manager will work closely with the Management Team to steer the best value project including cost benefit analysis of decisions included in permitting, interconnection, energy production, procurement, and financing.
 
Responsibilities :  60% - Manage Joint Venture commercial topics Commercial
Support the Commercial Director in implementing commercial strategies (e.g. Commercial PPA's) according to company goals and objectives aiming to accelerate growth of the Atlantic Shores JV Build partnerships with (potential) external business partners Investigate and deliver further OREC-compliant power trading  optimizations Co-lead new RFP bids into New York, New Jersey or otherwise. Requires ability to articulate complex issues through succinct, cohesive summaries and presentations.Working knowledge or demonstrated ability to quickly learn renewable energy.  
Contracting & Procurement
Build a strong network with global and US-based offshore wind contractors to enable further localisation of supply chain into East Coast US. Set-up a most competitive supply chain - WTG's, O&M, Installation, Electrical, Other services like Geotech & Consulting - leveraging the full size of 2.5 GW the potential Atlantic Shores lease area. Lead specific commercial evaluations and/or full Contracting efforts with specific suppliers for Atlantic Shores.  
Competitive Intelligence & Strategy
Conduct market research and set-up effective competitive intelligence gathering that enables most optimal outcomes for any commercial opportunities (State RFP's or Corporate) Develop Understand the requirements of future customers (State or Corporate) and build value propositions that enable Atlantic Shores to win - now and in the future Implement winning commercial strategies (e.g. for COP Strategy) according to company goals and objectives aiming to accelerate growth Build existing JV Unique value proposition work into an Actionable plan to support Atlantic Shores in securing best possible outcomes (in current and future RFP bids) 15% - Risks : Proposes and manages Portfolio risks assessment, risk controlling and risk reporting processes including the aggregation and selection of top risks to be proposed to the Commercial Director and full Atlantic Shores MT. Consistently identifies, evaluates, and monitors project risks and develops and implements risk mitigation strategies. Organizes and facilitates workshops with to identify, categorize and quantify risks in the Risks Register, and to propose / follow up on mitigation strategies.Develops and applies methods for quantitative risk assessment (through probabilistic methods applied to costs and time schedules).  
15% - Valuation : Supports the Commercial Director in developing a JV Economic model that can be used for scouting opportunities and decision making with the JV. Interfaces with relevant external (e.g. for price input) and parent company resources (e.g. Economist and Strategy department) to ensure the Atlantic Shores model is understood and remains Can run Economic analyses (often in support of the dedicated JV economist) of various opportunities raised with the JV for assessment. 10% - Other duties as assigned   Ensures commercial record keeping and documentation management are implemented in an effective and efficient manner pursuant to JV policy and other requirements. Perform other tasks as assigned by the Commercial Director.  
Supervision of Others : (Include # of direct reports and consultants for which you have authority. Do not include # of indirect reports supervised by other ASOW Supervisors or Managers)
Currently no direct reports. When the JV is successful in attracting state PPA's further growth of the commercial team is envisaged.
Qualifications : (Degree/Certifications/License/Experience/Specialized Knowledge/Skills)
Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Science, Business, or related field is required. Master's degree in Business Administration preferred Experience/Skills/Abilities
 
This is a truly unique role in an Offshore Wind venture with significant growth potential (2.5+ GW) in a new market.
 
The successful candidate:
Has 5+ years of relevant work experience within wind and/or offshore industry leading high-profile projects, negotiations and valuation work ($250+ million value). Is a highly motivated self-starter and team player Demonstrates ability to work successfully with multiple people from all types of fields of expertise in a high-paced JV environment. Demonstrates ability in finance, economics and deal structuring. Has experience with independently negotiating and closing supplier contracts for projects in Select, Define and Execute phases. Has deep experience with budgets, scheduling and RFP processes. Shows outstanding interpersonal oral and written communication, presentation skills required. Has good organizational and communication skills.  
Note:
 
Experience in origination and (business) development experience is a significant competitive advantage. Experience with project engineering and/or contract management experience a significant competitive advantage. Experience with Risk identification, Risk mitigation and of risk evaluation a significant competitive advantage. Any experience with on or offshore wind development is a significant competitive advantage. Working Conditions :
Significant time to be spend in Atlantic Shores office in Brooklyn, New York - with regular visits to the Atlantic Shores offices in Massachusetts and New Jersey.
Significant time will be spent outside of the office visiting potential partners, contractors. Some visits to parent organizations' sites will be required. The Commercial Manager will also be attending various (wind) conferences and meetings. During project construction, presence on site may be required.
