Job Description:

Applied Research Associates (ARA), Inc. Capital Area Division (CAD)is seeking a scientist/engineer experience in developing geomechanical constitutive material models for modeling and simulation purposes. We are looking for candidates with a degree in Engineering, Geotechnical, or Physics with a modeling & simulation background and experience. A strong foundation in FORTRAN is a plus. This position will place you in a team of highly skilled professionals developing modeling and simulation codes that simulate shock and seismic wave mechanics. You will also develop computational constitutive models describing key mechanical behavior, update modeling / simulation codes, and implement new models. Roles include but not limited to:
Deriving material models of different rock classes from empirical dataImplementing material models in FORTRAN engineering codes and librariesData analysis and visualization of output from engineering physics codes and comparing to benchmark data for validitySupport testing, evaluation, and demonstrations of systems in unclassified and classified environmentsInstructing courses on constitutive material modeling and developing tutorials for computational codesDeveloping custom material models for specific test site geologies that range from shock to seismic pressure regimes.Peer reviewing material model reports and simulation results
Required Qualifications:
Experience with engineering software codes for modeling & simulationBachelor's degree in geology, geotechnical engineering, geoscience, geophysics, structural mechanics or related degree with a minimum of 10 years experienceUS citizen and the ability to obtain a Department of Defense security clearanceExperience developing non-linear mathematical models from empirical data
Desired Qualifications:
Development of software modeling codes and tools in a collaborative environment with versioning controlRelated technical degrees (Engineering, Physics) and/or work experience with emphasis on physics-based models and simulation in any of the following; geotechnical, geo-mechanics, rock mechanics, underground structures, mining engineering, explosive effects, shock physics, computational continuum mechanicsExperience interpreting rocks mechanical property testsPrior experience providing support to Countering of Weapons of Mass Destruction testing programs including ground shock effectiveness and underground structure hardnessFORTRAN programming experienceMaster's Degree with a minimum of 7 years experienceCurrent clearance preferred, with eligibility for TS/SCI
