Job Description:

Creates, develops, plans, writes and edits complex operational, instructional, interactive electronic technical manuals (IETMs), maintenance or test procedures for paper, multimedia or web-based publication
Conducts interviews with various users and technical staff to gather data for documentationResearches and translates technical information into manuals and/or web-based documents for nontechnical and technical users Acquires subject knowledge by interviewing product developers, observing performance of production methods, referring to technical specifications, blueprints, engineering illustrations, and trade journals Recommends formats responsive to technical and customer requirementsProduces products that conform to the company documentation and quality assurance standards
Responsible for defining and determining best practice process and procedures for collected data to be transposed to professional writing products.

Responsible for developing IETM/ETM content data in XML format and/or training curriculum support using MS Office or equivalent products.

Effective time management skills and effective oral and electronic communications.

Gathers text and materials (such as engineering models, drawings, schematics, spreadsheets, etc.) by researching products and data, conducting interviews with various users, technical staff and subject matter experts in order to analyze, interpret and convert the information into end-user military standard (MIL STD) documentation and reference materials.

Works with SME to draft, review, and critique ILS content work in order to help develop leadership skills, documentation skills and expertise with production tools, projects, etc.

Documents engineering processes and specifications by editing software developer and engineering staff's notes and procedures and applying formatting in order to support the writing and publication of hardware and software test procedures, white papers, readme files, etc.

Researches new production tools and third party software that will help improve work processes by conducting research via the internet, trade journals, seminars, user forums, etc. in order to solve current workflow problems and suggest to management ways to improve our documentation process

Proactively informs the technical documentation lead of assignment status, issues or concerns, including issues of scope, schedule, process, and quality through informal meetings, and emailed status reports to keep the technical documentation lead informed

Ensures the accurate preparation of documents for interim and final delivery to customer by participating in peer review of documentation

Often interacts with the following:
Internal customers Program Leads External customers, suppliers and subcontractors Members of Engineering and Technical Staff Engineering Personnel
Travel may be required:

Works with little instruction on day-to-day work and with specific instructions on new or high level assignments

Full use and application of standard principles, theories, concepts, and techniques.

Requirements

Considerable knowledge of the structure and content of the English language including the meaning and spelling of words, rules of composition, and grammarConsiderable written communication skills and the ability to tailor communication to target audienceConsiderable verbal communication, listening and interviewing skills Considerable ability to research highly technical information and interpret dataConsiderable understanding of DoD MIL Standards and S1000D International Standards. Use of style guides and the ability to adhere to and implement such standards to technical documentation.Strives to grow expertise in the fundamentals of their job (i.e. production tools, projects, DoD MIL STD, IETMS, etc.)Develops solutions to a variety of problems of moderate scope and complexity Considerable experience with editing and production tools (i.e. FrameMaker, MS Word, Arbor Text, etc.) is desiredConsiderable experience with XML publishing/development is desired. Exercises judgment within defined procedures and practices to determine appropriate action.Represents organization on specific projects as required.
