Overview
The GBS Group, an engineering services and consulting firm, is seeking a Mechanical/Marine Engineer to join our Virginia Beach Engineering Office. The GBS Group designs and delivers high technology services and solutions to most advanced naval and maritime ships, as well as to special purpose platforms and assets. The GBS Group also works with passenger rail trains designing and installing Communication equipment, WiFi Systems, system monitoring, and locations monitoring. Our office is located at 2696 Reliance Drive, Suite 100, Virginia Beach, Va, just east of Lynnhaven mall off of International Drive.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to
Ship Checks to develop cost estimates in developing Proposals Ship Checks to develop Transalts/ShipAlts for system upgrades and repairs Technical writing to develop work items, test procedures, technical manuals, training manuals, and technical proposals. Develop test procedures to validate machinery control system performance. Provide machinery control system commissioning and testing. Provide support for R&D projects as well as production requirements. Work with a Production team to help quickly identify and resolve problems Computer Aided Design experience for drafting. Review of mechanical and electrical drawings. Actively participate in improving the programming of control systems and implementing changes. Research, develop and apply advanced engineering concepts in the solution of complex manufacturing problems. Reviews new designs for production ability, considering cost, quality, safety, delivery, production capabilities Manage and prioritize multiple project timelines Evaluate existing production equipment and recommends design modifications to eliminate machine or system malfunctions and obsolescence. Qualifications
Candidates must possess the following professional experience and qualifications: Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical or Marine Engineering with 3 to 5 years of experience in the Maritime Industry Test experience in writing test procedures and conducting test events Technical writing experience in developing Work Items, Technical Manuals, Training Manuals, and Proposals Ability to optimize, add new features and improve existing control systems. Experience with field upgrades and startups. Experience with electrical and mechanical troubleshooting. Ability to obtain a security clearance Ability to travel domestically and internationally. Desired Characteristics:
Integration experience in fielding a PLC based system; with the ability to develop Software requirement descriptions to provide to the software developer to properly operate the systems. Software development experience is a plus but not required Must be familiar with maritime and Navy terminology, and have shipboard experience and a thorough knowledge of marine engineering and navigational systems Shipboard/field experience with hands on troubleshooting/repair of various shipboard systems. Shipboard propulsion, shafting and bearing experience is preferred EEO Statement
