SYSTEMS ENGINEER

Overview

The GBS Group, an engineering services and consulting firm, is seeking a Systems Engineer to join our Philadelphia Engineering Office. The GBS Group designs and delivers high technology services and solutions to most advanced naval and maritime ships, as well as to special purpose platforms and assets. Our office is located at the Philadelphia Navy Yard, which is a dynamic urban development, offering the Philadelphia region a unique and centrally-located waterfront business campus committed to smart energy innovation and sustainability. The Navy Yard has over 20 acres of parks, one mile of waterfront trail and is located less than one-half mile from the Wells Fargo Center, Lincoln Financial Field, Citizens Bank Park, as well as the retail/entertainment center Xfinity Live!.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to
Participate in requirements development and design reviews of next generation test tools including prototypes. Develop test procedures to exercise requirements of current and future systems. Modify existing simulator software and hardware to support ship control and bridge systems requirements. Troubleshoot existing hardware and software. Provide design support for integration of equipment in an industrial/shipboard environment. Provide machinery control system commissioning and testing. Program and modify new and existing programmable logic controller (PLC) programs for control systems Interpret and design sensor/control circuitry for PLC based systems Contribute creation of the code as well as testing and debugging for implementation in production. Work with Production team to help quickly identify and resolve problems Research, develop and apply advanced engineering concepts in the solution of complex manufacturing problems. Reviews new designs for production ability, considering cost, quality, safety, delivery, production capabilities Manage and prioritize multiple project timelines Evaluate existing production equipment and recommends design modifications to eliminate machine or system malfunctions. Anticipate travel to be up to 10%, varying throughout the year Qualifications

Candidates must possess the following professional experience and qualifications:
Bachelor's Degree in Engineering with 5 to 10 years of experience Good Ship Systems Engineering background Test experience in writing test procedures and conducting test events Ability to optimize, add new features and improve existing control systems Experience with field startups Experience with electrical troubleshooting Ability to troubleshoot software and hardware issues related to embedded systems Required knowledge of Windows 10 and Microsoft Office Preferred knowledge of Linux operating systems Ability to obtain and maintain a secret clearance Must be able to demonstrate an understanding of structured text and setting up PLCs Desired Characteristics:
Experience with Navy Machinery Controls Systems Technical writing ability Experience using LabVIEW/MATLAB for rapid prototype development. Integration experience in fielding a PLC based system; Familiarity with Rockwell/Siemens platform is preferred Software development experience is a plus but not required Ability to demonstrate effective teamwork experience and communication skills, both written and verbal Reasonable problem-solving ability Attention to detail and meticulous logging of testing, troubleshooting steps, and findings Understanding of the following is preferred: JAVA and Python Engineering processes such as waterfall, agile, etc. Control algorithms Object oriented practices Familiarity hardware and software Release to Manufacturing (RTM) requirements Familiarity with MS Access
