POSITION SUMMARY:
USFOR-A will require installation and end user support for Armed Forces Network (AFN) equipment. This
should be for technical support for USFOR-A which covers the CJOA. The services will focus on providing
installation and customer and facility support within the CJOA.
MAJOR JOB ACTIVITIES:
Shall support all Forward Operating Bases (FOBs)/Bases across Afghanistan with regards to the Armed Forces Network (AFN). Shall install, upgrade, and maintain the cable distribution network and all associated equipment. Shall erect, mount, maintain, and replace antenna masts whether installed on the ground or on rooftop to support AFN links and infrastructure. Shall run and install cabling from roof antennae to distribution rooms and/or individual rooms as well as maintain cable distribution in equipment racks. Install, upgrade, maintain head end units and all associated equipment and wiring that receives AFN and re-broadcasting signals. Shall maintain the Commander's access channel. The Public Affairs Office, J6, and/or others shall produce content, thus, the technician shall maintain/repair DVD to broadcast locally produced slide shows, locally produced video, etc. Shall submit work orders for facility maintenance in order to support the TV distribution network. Such facility work orders may include but may not be limited to building power, HVAC, equipment grounding, etc. Shall request new equipment, funding, and temporary manpower for large projects. Shall ensure AFN equipment is registered with HQ AFN. Shall submits budget requests and technical solutions for equipment associated with tasks. Shall maintain, design, and upgrade TV distribution architecture. Shall conduct inventory of existing TV distribution equipment. Shall review existing TV distribution architecture. Shall develop, design, and engineer technical solutions to improve audio/video quality and reliability.
MATERIAL & EQUIPMENT DIRECTLY USED:
Personal computer, scanner and other standard office equipment.
WORKING ENVIRONMENT:
1. Candidate must be able to lift, push and pull up to 40 lbs.
2. The work environment will be 95% indoor and 5% outdoor. The outdoor work
environment may exceed temperatures 100° F. Candidate must be able to physically withstand extreme heat.
Qualifications:
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Candidate shall possess strong customer support/service skills.
Candidate shall have five (5) years of experience in a communication or information technology customer support role, elevated network, hardware, and software troubleshooting.
Candidate shall have the ability to respond to changes in a fluid environment.
Candidate shall possess basic knowledge of LAN/WAN and operating system principles for installation configuration and troubleshooting.
Candidate shall have the ability to provide AFN support, installation, configuration and technical support across the CJOA.
