Job Description:
POSITION SUMMARY:
This position holds the title of Station Captain of Operations with in Fire and Emergency Services (F&ES). This ismanagerial work planning, organizing, and directing fire suppression and emergency response work. Plans, organizes, prioritizes, disciplines, and directs the activities of the department. Assumes Incident Command on all related emergencies to ensure proper mitigation and direction of personnel.
MAJOR JOB ACTIVITIES:
1.Assists with Incident Command during the mitigation efforts towards fire suppression, rescue, fire operations, EMS and Hazmat type emergencies.
2.Maintains and service tests fire suppression and rescue equipment.
3.Investigates and reports causes of fire.
4.Establishes, conducts and evaluates training.
5.Reports and records F&ES specific data to applicable parties.
6.Administers NFPA 1500, Fire Department Occupational Safety and Health Program.
7.Performs other duties as assigned by Asst. Fire Chief's and Fire Chief.
MATERIAL & EQUIPMENT DIRECTLY USED:
Must be capable of operating a personal computer equipped with Microsoft software. Be able to produce Word documents and Excel spreadsheets. Operates specialized firefighting/emergency vehicles/equipment.
WORKING ENVIRONMENT/PHYSICAL ACTIVITIES:
In this position there is exposure to physical and working conditions where serious accidents or injuries may occur, exposure to disagreeable noise elements and prolonged high ambient temperatures. Must be physically able to operate a variety of machines, tools and equipment which includes a motor vehicle, computer, generator, fire pump, fire hydrant, axe, shovel, hydraulic tools, power tools, hand tools, medical equipment, etc. Must be able to use body members to work, move, or carry objects or materials. Physical demand requirements are at levels of those very heavy work. The candidate must be able to be certified by an M.D. to meet the medical conditions in the lates edition of NFPA 1582.
1.Must be able to exert in excess of one hundred pounds of force occasionally, and/or in excess of fity pounds of forcefrequently.
Qualifications:
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
1.Foreign National
2.A local driver's license is required
Education/Experience/Certification requirements:
High School Diploma or Equivalent is required; Associates/Bachelor's is preferred.
The Station Captain of Operations must be Fire Officer-II certified, Inspector I, Instructor I certified and Hazmat Technician certified. AS degree preferred.
Preferred certification of Fire officer-II & Instructor-II, Basic Life Support (BLS)Five (5) years of supervisory experience and required IFSAC certifications. AA degree preferred.
Two years related experience may be substituted for one year of education, if degree is required.
