The Executive Director (ED) is responsible for the development and execution of global commercial Biomarker & Diagnostic strategies. The ED will be leading the definition of short- and long-term diagnostic business strategies, assessment of market opportunities & competitor strategies, decision making on global positioning, definition of overall promotional communication strategies, pricing recommendation, as well as life-cycle strategies. The ED position will engage with diagnostic partners, pharma partners, global Scientific Leaders (SL) and other external key stakeholders. The ED position will lead a team of global directors and will work with all functions in Merck Research Laboratories (MRL), GHH, Alliance Management, Legal, Procurement etc.

This ED position requires outstanding leadership and the ED is expected to possess good foresight of market trends and consequences, have broad knowledge and perspective, understand political and regulatory landscapes, be future oriented and able to articulate risk vs. benefit to create competitive, breakthrough strategies and plans.

Key Responsibilities:

Lead the overall development and execution of global commercial biomarker & diagnostic strategies, hereunder the short- & long-range business planning and activities Lead all global business activities including but not limited to digital initiatives, partner & opportunity valuations, diagnostic segmentation and positioning, market research, forecasting, market access etc. Partner with Global Disease Leaders (GDLs) to ensure alignment of diagnostic strategies and efforts to the overall drug development & commercialization strategies Collaborate with diagnostic partners on commercialization strategy, positioning, messaging, tactics etc. Collaborate with pharma partners on commercialization strategy, diagnostic partner selection, planning of in-market activities, diagnostic tactics etc. Work with internal cross-functional partners including MRL, Medical Affairs, Alliance Management, Procurement, Market Access, Finance, Market Research, Communications, BD&L, Regulatory Affairs, Legal, etc. to deliver timely availability of diagnostic tests in the market Provide commercial leadership in collaborating with Product Development Teams (PDT), Joint Commercialization Committees (JCC), Joint Steering Committees (JSC), Diagnostic Development Teams (DxDT), Diagnostic Leadership Team (DxLT) etc. Engage with Scientific Leaders via Advisory Boards, Expert Input Forums (EIF), conferences, symposia etc. to help inform strategy definition Partner with MRL to ensure commercial input into the clinical development strategies and development of new biomarkers & diagnostics, cut-off, scoring methods etc. Provide commercial leadership, support, and expertise to country marketing organizations for product launches and issues management Key Leadership Competencies:

Qualifications

Education:

Bachelors Degree required. MSc, PhD, and/or MBA strongly preferred Required Experience:
A minimum of 8 years of industry experience (pharma + diagnostics) is required, including at least 3 years of pharma experience and at least 2 years of biomarker/diagnostics experience Extensive experience in diagnostic and pharma oncology marketing Demonstrated commercial leadership in market assessments, development of diagnostic strategy, long & short-range business planning, global market access Demonstrated engagement and/or collaboration with business partners, scientific leaders, cross-functional teams and senior management Significant entrepreneurial, result oriented, analytical, problem solving, collaborative skills Ability to manage agreed time/resources to deliver on goals in a highly paced and ever-changing diagnostic environment Strong prioritization and decision-making skills with the ability to understand how the decisions fit into the broader context of corporate strategies Demonstrated ability to motivate, mentor, lead and provide clear unambiguous expectations and priorities for the team Excellent interpersonal, relationship building, collaboration and communication skills 30% Travel, including some weekends
