Specialist, Procurement

The Specialist, Procurement ("SP") will be reporting to the Associate Director of Global Procurement who has a mandate across all spend activity within Human Health and Animal Health in Merck Canada Inc. Sourcing experience across a range of categories is required.

The SP will be committed and highly motivated with a natural flair for negotiation and relationship management and proven ability for engaging stakeholders, working with them across multiple Procurement Projects within different categories, with full accountability and ownership of the project from end-to-end.

The SP will work closely with stakeholders across the entire business and will have responsibility for leading and managing all commercial and contractual interaction with external suppliers.

This position is a key link between stakeholders and the Sourcing Centers of Expertise (CoE) within Global Procurement:
Represents CoE(s) locally, understanding supply strategies and agreements and describing the benefits to the site and Merck overall; Manages the end-to-end procurement process (RFI, RFP, RFQ, contract drafting and negotiation, supplier and stakeholder management) for the full spectrum of indirect spend categories; Creates and develops source plans for local categories based on internal requirements, supply market analysis and cost models - and also supports and provides information for input into "above site" spend categories; Implements regional, international and global sourcing initiatives locally and leads local cross-functional teams through the Sourcing Management Process; Identifies and documents all cost reduction and profit plan improvements; Operates within the boundaries of Global Procurement Policy. Primary activities include, but are not limited to:



Global Category Team :
Understands the strategy developed by the CoE(s) and executes action plans to achieve the sourcing team's objectives. Works with regional teams to support category roadmaps. Sourcing:
Uses the Sourcing Management Process to pro-actively manage optimize value and ensure appropriate risk management. Leads local sourcing activities (RFx) and negotiates at tactical and strategic levels to develop local contracts. Supplier and Supply Market Analysis:
Conducts detailed supplier and supply market analysis at the Local level looking at facts, data analysis, reports and changes in technology; with the objective of providing insight to Sourcing Management teams.




Stakeholder management:
Engages and partners with stakeholders to ensure that their needs are well taken into account through the Sourcing Management Process.




Supplier Performance Management:
Manages, monitors, reports and seeks to continuously improve supplier performance. Ensures agreements and relationships have a good supplier matrix embedded within them. Link local supplier performance management with the global process within the respective categories.




Continuous Improvement:
Pro-active in proposing solution to improve way of working of the existing environment.

Cost Analyses:
Employs or develops detailed cost models/purchase price analysis of goods and services that are supplied to Merck using available data. Proactively a chieves cost control, cost reduction, and cost containment targets through a strong Total Cost of Ownership (TCO) process management.
Qualifications

Bachelor's Degree in Business, Finance, Marketing or related field. Minimum 3 years of experience in strategic sourcing or related role. Strong category experience in the indirect space. Knowledge of Procurement-related business processes. Strong knowledge of the industry and PAAB. Demonstrated solid leadership capabilities, with particular strengths in collaboration, ability to influence behaviors of internal stakeholders and cross-functional teamwork. Strong analytical skills and proficiency in the use of personal computers and business software. Cultural awareness and sensitivity required. Strong written and verbal communications. Language: Bilingual (French and English).
