Departmental Objective
Plant Operations is responsible for maintaining campus buildings utilizing the carpentry, plumbing, electrical and HVAC trades as well as housekeeping and floor maintenance.

Purpose of the Position
This position will perform repairs, alternations, renovations, preventative maintenance, and new installations for building and campus electrical systems, fire alarm system, emergency generators, and elevators and their associated components.
It is responsible for ensuring all work performed is done safely and per code ( NEC and VUSBC ).

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities (KSA's) and/or Competencies required and preferred
Required:
Thorough knowledge of electrical theory, methods, practices, terminology, tools, and materials used in electrical maintenance
General knowledge of NFPA 70 ( NEC ), BOCA , VUSBC , International Code Council code books, VOSHA , NPFA 70E, NFPA 72 and OSHA
Thorough knowledge of the safety hazards of the work and of the necessary safety precautions
Ability to troubleshoot and make repairs to complicated electrical wiring, electrical systems, fixtures, and equipment
Skill in the use of electrical maintenance and repair equipment
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with associates
Exceptional customer service skills
Ability to interact and communicate effectively both orally and in writing with staff, faculty, students
Ability to tolerate change and continuous learning
Ability to respond to emergency maintenance repairs and safety issues on an on-call rotational basis
Ability to work special events in evenings and on weekends such as graduation, homecoming, concerts, etc. as needed

Education, Experience, Licensure, Certification Required
Education Required: High school diploma or equivalent. Valid driver's license. Current Journeyman electrical license with V.A. DPOR . Training in the electrical field.
Experience Required: Extensive experience in the electrical field.

Education, Experience, Licensure, Certification Preferred
Education Preferred: Completed apprenticeship training in the electrical field.
Current master electrical license with Virginia DPOR . Certified in infrared analysis of equipment.
Experience Preferred: Experience in a higher education or government organization. Utility locating experience.
Experience operating various types of equipment to include: trencher, man lift, boom lift and scissor type lift. Experience in infrared analysis of electrical equipment and generating reports.

Conditions of Employment
This position includes Commonwealth of Virginia and CNU employee benefits;
