Chief Objective of Position
The Assistant Director of Student Activities for Programming assists in fostering campus life through the development and implementation of diverse programming tailored to meet the needs of Christopher Newport Students. In consultation with the Director of Student Activities, the Assistant Director will develop, execute, and assess programs that provide enriching experiences, engage students, and enhance student's overall learning and development. The Assistant Director will serve as primary advisor to the Campus Activities Board ( CAB ).
Work Tasks
Develops a comprehensive campus programming plan that includes diverse programs and activities to include late night and weekend programming.
Serves as staff advisor for the Campus Activities Board ( CAB ) and directs its programming efforts, leadership selection, membership development, and provides event oversight as appropriate. This includes overseeing events, weekend programming, and late night events.
Manage the Campus Activities Board budget, approximately $150,000 annually, including all purchases and application for funds from the Student Activity Fee each year.
Demonstrates a commitment to providing inclusive programs that appeal to student from a wide variety of backgrounds and life experiences.
In consultation with the Director of Student Activities , solicits, negotiates and executes contracts for activities and speakers performing on the CNU campus in conjunction with campus life initiatives.
Provides assistance at Office of Student Activities campus-wide events including, but not limited to; Club Fair, Homecoming, Captain's Ball, Senior Week, and Fraternal Value Awards.
Seeks out opportunities for collaboration with campus departments to develop and implement integrated programs and activities.
Plans and implements Senior Week activities in collaboration with the Office of Alumni Relations.
Conducts regular programmatic assessment to determine the impact of programming on campus life and provides comprehensive data and reports to inform future practice.
Develops and recommends policies, procedures, and best practices to support campus programming.
Contributes to University-wide programming efforts, including, but not limited to; orientation, welcome week, admission events, and commencement.
Develops and maintains exceptional customer service and within the department and with all constituencies to include students, faculty, staff, guests, and employees. Demonstrates a positive and professional attitude and treats everyone with dignity and respect. Fully supports the "Student's First" value at CNU and routinely goes the extra mile in providing service.
Depending on the situation, this position may be designated during emergency closings. Designated employees may be required to work during times they are not regularly scheduled to work.
Safety issues are reviewed and communicated to insure a safe and healthy workplace and a reduction in work related absences.
This position is designated as a "responsible employee" who has the authority to redress sexual violence, who has the duty to report incidents of sexual violence or other student misconduct, or who a student could reasonably believe has this authority or duty.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities (KSA's) preferred
Current knowledge of applying best practices in student affairs, student development theory, and risk management practices in higher education.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office Products and Google applications.
Required Education
Master's degree in Higher Education, College Student Personnel, or related field; or a Bachelor's degree plus significant experience that equates to an advanced degree is required.

Demonstrated experience in developing, planning, and executing programs. Experience collaborating with teams. Experience working with University organizations.

Demonstrated experience planning and implementing large campus-wide programming efforts. Demonstrated experience working with clubs and organizations on a college/university campus.
