Annual training is required by the Department of Education for all personnel who have been designated as a Campus Security Authority.

Chief Objective of Position
Using discretion and independent judgment, responsible for the development, implementation, management and training of health, safety and environmental objectives to ensure compliance with federal and states laws and regulations and to promote a safe and healthful environment.

Work Tasks
• Develops, coordinates and administers all aspects of campus workers safety and environmental systems including, but not limited to, fire safety, radiation safety, laboratory safety, hazardous materials handling, hazardous waste management, industrial hygiene services, asbestos management, occupational health and safety, and environmental compliance.
• Develops, updates, implements, and maintains a variety of safety and health programs in compliance with State and Federal regulations and the University's needs, such as Hazard Communication Plan, Blood-Borne Pathogens, Laboratory Safety, Personal Protective Equipment, and Hearing Conservation and in consultation with senior administration, develop and establish safety policies and procedures.
• Establishes and chairs a viable environmental, health and safety committee.
• Serves as the OSHA representative for the University and ensures the University is in compliance with federal and state regulations and standards, maintains all required record keeping and training documentation and reports and conducts periodic review and revision of all written safety and environmental policies, emergency response plans and programs.
• Interfaces with regulatory agencies, committee members and institutional staff to formulate corrective actions.
• Monitors all current information on regulations and requirements related to hazardous materials and agents. Directs industrial hygiene, occupational and general safety programs to ensure a safe environment and comply with safety standards.
• Investigates all workplace accidents, fires and chemical and radiation contamination incidents and implements safety controls to prevent any future re occurrences. Conducts on-site reviews and audits of operations and facilities.
• Works in consultation with: the University Police regarding emergency preparedness and management; the Office Human Resources regarding workers compensation claims, addresses safety issues and trains supervisors and employees to prevent future accidents; Plant Operations in the maintenance and testing of fire alarm and detection systems; academic departments including researchers and serves on applicable committees including the Animal Care and Use Committee; and, other departments in the assessing hazards and recommending improvements.
• Ensures that employees are knowledgeable regarding safe working practices by presenting and tracking required training.
• Investigates and evaluates new safety equipment for appropriateness.
• Serves as a member of all safety committees.
• Responds and provides assistance to all emergency situations.
• Supports, manages and promotes sustainability on campus.
• Completes all work in a timely, efficient and accurate manner.
• This position is designated as a "responsible employee" who has the authority to redress sexual violence, who has the duty to report incidents of sexual violence or other student misconduct, or who a student could reasonably believe has this authority or duty.
• Develops and maintains very positive and professional customer service and/or relations within the office/department and with all constituencies to include students, faculty, staff, guests, and employees. Demonstrates a positive and professional attitude and treats everyone with dignity and respect. Fully supports the "Student's First" value at CNU and routinely goes the extra mile in providing service.
• Reviews and communicates safety issues to assure a safe and healthy workplace and a reduction in work related absence.
• Other duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities (KSA's) required
Proven knowledge of all federal, state and local laws/regulations regarding safety issues. Excellent presentation skills. Ability to communicate effectively both orally an in writing. Ability to multitask, prioritize and work independently and collaboratively. Excellent organizational skills. Computer literacy, word processing and spreadsheet skills. Ability to work after hours, occasional weekends, nights and holidays to respond to emergency and non-emergency situations.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities (KSA's) preferred
Extensive knowledge of best safety practices.

Required Education
Must have a Master's Degree; or, a Bachelor's Degree and work experience at a level which equates to an advanced degree.

Preferred Education
Education above the master's level. Certification courses in hazardous waste management, fire inspection, radiation safety, asbestos abatement, industrial hygiene, hazardous material handling or National Incident Management Systems and Incident Command System. Credentialing through the National Environmental Health Association.

Experience Required
Experience using work processing and spreadsheet software.
Demonstrated experience in one or more of the following areas:
• hazardous waste management
• fire inspection
• radiation safety
• asbestos abatement
• industrial hygiene
• laboratory safety
• occupational health and safety
• hazardous material handling

Experience Preferred
Experience in a college or university. Experience in a similar safety position. Experience using MS Office.
