Responsibilities

As a Powered Support Systems Mechanic, WG-5378-10, you will be responsible for the accurate interpretation of numerous manufacturer drawings, specifications, operating instructions, and test procedures. Troubleshoot repairs, adjust and align down-sized powered support equipment. Correct unusual maintenance problems, by interpreting a variety of technical data such as tables, charts, formulas, color codes, wiring diagrams, and schematic symbols. Analyze circuits and circuit relationships, apply electronic principles in order to fault-isolate and repair the various digital devices contained in complex powered support equipment. Perform inspections, preventive maintenance, servicing, repair, and adjustments on complex rotary diesel engines. Conduct classes to train non-maintenance personnel operations, test procedures, and troubleshooting requirements of complex powered support equipment.

NATIONAL GUARD MEMBERSHIP IS REQUIRED. If you are not sure you are eligible for military membership, please contact a National Guard recruiter prior to applying for this position. This is an excepted service position that requires membership in a compatible military assignment in the employing state's National Guard, required prior to the effective date of placement. Selectee will be required to wear the military uniform. Acceptance of an excepted service position constitutes concurrence with these requirements as a condition of employment. Applicants who are not currently a member of the National Guard must be eligible for immediate membership and employment in the National Guard in the military grade listed in this announcement. Males born after 31 December 1959 must be registered for Selective Service. Federal employment suitability as determined by a background investigation. May be required to successfully complete a probationary period. Participation in direct deposit is mandatory.

GENERAL EXPERIENCE: Experience or training which demonstrates the knowledge of mechanical maintenance work; ability to read and use technical manuals, illustrations, diagrams and schematics, and skill in the use of equipment and hand tools used in troubleshooting, testing and repairing equipment.

SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: Application must indicate 18 months experience or training removing, adjusting, replacing, cleaning, and installing parts, components, and accessories. Experience which provided working knowledge of mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic theory applying to powered support equipment and systems; and skill to replace, fit, install, and make adjustments. Experience which provided working knowledge of the makeup and operation of the various individual systems maintained and their interrelationships. Experience reading and interpreting parts lists, manufactures' repair manuals, diagrams, and electrical schematics.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND COMPETENCIES: Applicants who meet the eligibility requirements will be further evaluated by the nominating supervisor based on the following competencies considered essential to perform the duties and responsibilities of the position.
- Knowledge of ground powered equipment maintenance support requirements of the organization during peacetime and knowledge of wartime mission requirements.

- Knowledge and skills found at the journeyman level.

- The ability to plan and accomplish a functional shop maintenance program.

- Knowledge of the mechanical and electrical operation of powered support equipment: diesel, gasoline, and/or multi-fueled engines.

- Knowledge of compliance programs, i.e., Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), National Fire Protection Association (NFPA), and Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA).

- Ability to research and interpret Federal and state regulations and to read and interpret specifications and drawings to plan and direct comprehensive programs for the operation, maintenance, repair, and improvement of government facilities for the ANG wing/unit/RED HORSE and other supported organizations.

QUALITY OF EXPERIENCE: Length of time is not of itself qualifying. Candidates' experience should be evaluated on the basis of duties performed rather than strictly on the rank of the individual; however, established compatibility criteria/assignments must be followed. The applicant's record of experience, training, and education must show possession of the knowledge, skills, and abilities needed to fully perform the duties of the position to be filled.

SPECIAL NOTE: Per the Labor Relations Management Agreement if there are more than 15 qualified applicants for each position, by category, a KSA board will be convened in accordance with Section 17.8 of the LMRA.
