Job Description:

The Earth Observing System's Mission Management System (MMS) is part of a ground system at Goddard Space Flight Center that supports mission critical planning, scheduling, and command management for the Terra, Aqua, and Aura missions. This position will assist the current software development team in removing dependency of a COTS product/libraries on a Linux platform. This project will have an expected duration of one year with potential for extension.

General responsibilities include:
Responsible for assisting with the design, modification, and training related to the MMS application required for project delivery.
Interacts with end users to resolve engineering design issues and limitations, provide solutions, and coordinate with applications development team necessary for project delivery.
May also assist with evaluation of project requirements and system capabilities to provide solutions.
Capable of investigating and solving program problems.
Maintain documentation and adhere to all current software development lifecycle processes and procedures.

Qualifications:
Education:
MS in Computer Science or Computer Engineering and 2 years of related experience per the Essential Skills and Experience below
or
BS in Computer Science or Computer Engineering and 5 years of related experience per the Essential Skills and Experience below .
Essential Skills and Experience :
5 years of experience developing in C using a database (ideally Sybase)
5 year experience isql, csh, perl, bash script languages
Excellent knowledge of network protocols (TCP/IP) - working knowledge of Berkley Sockets API
Experience with Boost (serialization, functional/factory)
Knowledge of C Std Library
Experience with Linux 7.x Operating System
In depth understanding of programming concepts, and object oriented methodologies
Excellent troubleshooting skills
Scripting skills (e.g., Perl, Python, shell scripting)
Excellent written and verbal communications skills and willing to update detailed design documents
Excellent teamwork skills, result oriented and self-motivated
Optional experience:
Experience in removing RogueWave software
Experience with RogueWave (Source Pro, Net and DB) libraries
Experience with Sybase API - Open Client Client-Library/C API
