Job Description
The successful candidate will support development and analysis of strategies, plans, technologies, and program activities in support of the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) Aeronautics Research Mission Directorate (ARMD) research activities in aviation, air traffic management (ATM), and aviation system safety. This includes planning and analysis of technology demonstrations for the FAA Next Generation (NextGen) ATM system as well as strategy and analysis of longer term research areas such as system-wide safety assurance and autonomous systems for flight deck and ground based functions. The activities include defining and planning new programs and supporting existing ones, often working with ill-defined technical areas. The position requires working both independently or with a team, and in some cases leading the team.
The successful candidate will have a broad understanding of the NAS, ATM operations, NextGen, and future NAS concepts. The successful candidate will have experience in performing a variety of analysis and strategic planning for government research programs and demonstration projects as well as experience with NASA programs. The successful candidate will be capable of working effectively with the NASA and FAA research communities and interfacing with high level government executives.
Qualifications
Required Skills and Capabilities:
Bachelor's Degree in engineering, operations research, or related math or science field10 years of experience in industry or government serviceKnowledge of NASA's aeronautics and ATM research activities as well as an understanding of today's aviation and ATM systemsExperience developing strategic plans, program plans, and advocacy plans for government research and development activitiesExperience managing project teams, plans, budgets, and schedulesDemonstrated ability to develop and present project material to customers and clients
Desired Skills and Capabilities:
Advanced degree in aerospace or operations research or cost/benefit analysis Knowledge of the FAA research and development programsAdditional depth of experience with aviation and ATM, especially existing Traffic Flow Management (TFM) procedures or future TFM concepts as well as aviation safety issues and analysisExperience with Unmanned Aircraft Systems (UAS) future operations conceptsAnalytical skills to develop frameworks and analyze multi-objective problemsExperience in developing operational concepts, applying system engineering processes, and integrating new concepts into an Enterprise Architecture
